Hello; I am having difficulty in deciding what to train and what equipment to buy. I have tried to find direction on a character progression of sorts but wasn't able to. I know eve has those certificates, but dust doesn't. Any tips? Thanks! |

Go to the Market, Militia Gear, weapons. Buy 10 of each type of weapon. Make duplicates of the Starter Frontline fit and swap out the weapon. Try them and see which you like best. If you are interested in a weapon that does not have a militia variant, then train only the minimum skill requirement to use that weapon, and then try it.
Same with Dropsuits. The Starter suits are militia versions of the Medium Frame Basic suits. You can buy militia Light frame and Heavy frame suits.
Most of the skills in Dropsuit Upgrades will help you in any dropsuit, so if you are not sure which way you are headed, train the core skills. Electronics and Engineering do what they do in EVE and are just as important. Also the base Armour and Shield skills give +5% per level to max Armour and max Shields respectively. Beyond that, train what you need to equip what you want to equip. |

For suits, I would recommend sticking with militia suits. Unless you want to try a different race of suit, base your medium suits off the starter blueprints. Buy a few militia versions of the other suits. I would skip the non-militia basic medium/light suits, and go straight from militia suits to your preferred assault/logi/scout suit once you have the SP saved to invest. This is because the basic assault/scout suits are better than the basic non-role suits, and are also about half the cost. So if you like the Gallente militia medium suit, keep using that, and then when you have like 350k sp banked or so, get gal medium suit 3 and gal assault suit 1 all at once.
militia weapons aren't a bad idea, but IMO you want to upgrade to the basic versions pretty quickly, as the increased clip/magazine size makes a huge difference for most weapons. However I guess this applies less to weapons with higher SP barriers for entry, like the shotgun (light weapons 4) instead of say the assault rifle (light weapons lvl 2).
Overall, check out which skills apply bonuses that you get all of the time, namely a lot of the dropsuit upgrade skills. Be sure to get those skills to at least lvl 1 pretty quickly. |

Everyone's favorite Logistics is here to cover equipment (Because no one else does...)! :D
If you want to go into a Logistics, or just carry a piece of equipment, you need to kind of realize what role you want. Equipment is a very specialization-oriented piece of kit.
Example: Let's say you're a low-scale Logistics. You COULD carry a Nanohive, Repair Tool, and REs. But that would make you LESS efficient than if you used, say... A Nanohive, Repair Tool, and Nanite Injector.
Another thing, choose equipment based on your weapons. If you have a Mass Driver, you'd probably want a Nanohive, because of the lack of ammo in the Mass Driver. Or if you had a Shotgun, you might want an Active Scanner, to tell you if there's a pesky RedBerry behind that corner. It's all about knowing what situations you'll be in, and what will help. :)
EDIT: Oh look at me, 100 Likes. :) |

Could you comment on which pieces of equipment are more or less worthwhile to upgrade from militia to basic to advanced? |

It honestly depends on what role you'd like to fulfill. I find that the Triage equipment is best to upgrade. This includes Nanohives, Repair Tools, and Nanite Injectors. Try to get the Gauged Nanohive, as it can allow you to place more than 1 at a time. Easy WP is simply to place 2 next to eachother, and when someone walks in, you get +20. 10 for each resupply.
REs, however, are not worth the trouble. A single RE can do well over enough damage to kill a heavy with a bunch of shielding and armor. Last time I heard from how much damage, it was in the 1000s. The radius also isn't bad where it is. So Standard is just fine for REs.
Repair Tools... I'd get some of those. I'm currently working on getting the 'Triage' Variant, as it can Repair 2 people at once.
Uplinks are a must. Don't get the Militia Uplinks, EVER. I can only run Militia Uplinks on my ADV Gallente Logistics, because it's the only one with enough CPU/PG to handle it, and still able to fit a couple modules on it. The Militia Uplink eats WAY to much CPU/PG. Way to much.
Active Scanners, I find, are just fine at Standard. I only use the Standard, and I can still scan around an entire army's worth of redberries. So, that's cool.
Did I miss anything? I can't remember all equipment right now. :P |

Alternatively, if you have Aurum to spend, you can find Aurum versions of non-militia weapons that don't require skills to use. This is a good way to learn weapons that don't have militia versions without using any SP. |
