Why I would afk in the MCC if i didn't need the practice to 'get gud'
As a protest against the passive component of match sp rewards(i.e. sp for time in match). It's a reward mechanic that works against people participating in the match. It sends an implicitly bad message to new players that their personal contribution to the match have only so much worth, and that sp will be dispensed not according to effort or merit, but according to a 'socialist' sp dispensing system.
It's a destructive message and a destructive game mechanic. I think we have enough data to all agree on this.
But the motivation for the mechanic was a good one - CCP was worried about noobs receiving a brutal kicking in pubs and to add insult to injury recieving absolute no skillpints from the match.
This is a valid concern and important to DUST's future, but it is unfair and unreasonable to place the burden for this on the shoulders of the match skillpoint mechanic. A better solution must be found.
So, suggestion time.
The new player academy seems to be getting good results, the primary complaint seems to be that there is a very abrupt transition to open pub matches. Maybe a couple more tiers is worth trying - this should take some of the pressure off the sp reward mechanic.
Concerning active sp rewards for open pub matches, the time-based component of sp rewards has got to go. But how do we address the 0-sp-while-getting-pubstomped-problem? There's a lot of good suggestions on these forums, all of which incorporate asymmetrical sp rewards for noobs vs. vets, either calculated on an individual encounter-by-encounter basis, a match-average basis, or a combination of these.
My general suggestion is that active warpoints earned(kills, assists, rezzes, heals, u/l spawns, hives, hacks) must be used as a multiplier for a noob-specific sp boost. So zero wp still equals zero sp, but 25 wp for one assist gets you standard sp + a bonus based on how relatively inexperienced your character is(based on whatever criteria works best). What the specific form of this noob-bonus is doesn't matter, so long as what gets rewarded is active contributions to the match based on warpoints earned.
In reality, there are multiple good answers, any one of which would be a big improvement over what we have now.
