I'm just some random nub posting on the forum. I've been playing since Mordu's Private Trials, as both a tanker and a logibro. If you've seen my posts on here, you'll know by now that I'm a CCP fanboi and continuously stand by them in their FPS endeavor. I made this thread to share a bit about why I AFK in the MCC.
Firstly... I'm bored. The game has changed a lot since the closed beta, and while I pitch some pretty good tents in my pants when I read that we're getting new content, the gameplay has gotten fairly repetitive for me. Instant Action - Skirmish, check if there's 3-6 people from the same corp on the other team (if so, bail - if not, continue), deploy Gunnlogi (I don't see why there's so much whining between armor and shield tanks - shields work perfectly fine for me in an anti-infantry role), do some donuts, rinse, repeat.
I'm not even going to give planetary conquest a try. It's the same maps, same games, the only difference is that I'm working for someone else instead of myself.
Now, as for why I actually AFK - I don't really want to force myself to grind every week to hit the SP cap. If I miss out on one week, that's 270k SP (I run boosters) I miss out on. The game punishes those that don't hit their cap every week, and I really don't want to fall behind everyone else.
I know CCP has other things going on, and working with Sony has got to be one of the rings of Hell, but I keep seeing threads pop up about the long-awaited rolling SP cap. This would be a huge boon to this game in more ways than one (allowing me to log off so other people that actually play can fill my slot, for example).
Don't get me wrong, the game has a ton of potential, and I really do hope that CCP gets to meet their long-term goals. I've never played a FPS that allowed for this much customisation, allowing any role to be filled by any suit, while in every other game you're locked into a certain set of items for the class you choose (I'm looking at you, PS2). When I read about what CCP wants to do with this game, I get excited for the future of this game.
I'll still keep in touch via forums, but for now, you'll see me online every Wednesday - Friday (4am - 5pm job \o/) sitting in my easy chair aboard the MCC, watching as the game down below evolves. I'll definetly be back when we get some PvE action going (dual forge wielding drones, meet Gunnlogi), but for now, the routine has worn on me. I still love this game, and it will inevitibly suck me back into its vile clutches sooner or later. I have given CCP around $200 for my entirety playing, and I wouldn't ask for one cent refunded. If I didn't feel as though the game was worth it, I wouldn't have spent so much money and so many hours playing.
TL;DR - More kittenposting from an airbore swine. |

Tbh, on top of that $200 (rough estimate, probably more), I was planning on buying an elite pack. Y'know, so people would silently "wtf" themselves whenever they see a 'Dren' kill. |

It's like getting a bunch of free stuffs for buying 200k aur. I figured I'd just go with the bigger package at once vs buying several 20 dollar ones over time. Just like you , I have spent nearly 200 on this and do not regret it. Tank pack is pretty sweet for 10 bucks aswell.. just stay away from aerial lol
Tank pack was really fun to mess around with, especially when the CreoDron tank had insane amounts of PG. Now THAT was a tank xD |

DUST Fiend wrote:Why I AFK in the MCC: I don't
No one should be rewarded for not playing. And I wholeheartily agree with this opinion. I only use this flawed mechanic right now because I, quite seriously, CBA'ed to force myself to play right now. Until it's fixed, I'll continue to use this method to stay with the rest of the group though.
Of course, the rolling SP cap would completely remedy this situation. I'm not DEMANDING THAT THIS BE PUT IN NOW AS A PAYING CUSTOMER as many of the other threads are doing. It'll come when it comes, and it'll be a glorious day when it does. |

Xocoyol Zaraoul wrote:So you are going to AFK to rack up SP and ISK for more AFKing, instead of playing the game and earning even more SP and isk (Only nincompoops lose money) so you can enjoy the next round playing...
So why bother playing if you AFK for the sake of AFKing? I don't have the time nor the will to leave myself AFKing just to AFK some more, there are far more entertaining things in life and I'd rather play.
But hey, to each their own, whatever floats your boat. /shrugs I AFK so I don't fall behind all the other players in terms of SP in lieu of a rollover system. If you read my post, I underlined the main point of AFK'ing, being that this game punishes you for not playing by permanently putting you behind a ton of other people. I continue to do this, even though I burnt myself out, because I know better stuff is coming in the future, and I don't want to be left so far behind when it comes that I won't be able to enjoy it.
Again, a rollover SP system would (almost) completely alleviate this problem, both the AFK MCC'ing and the problem of "if you don't play now, you'll regret it later". Hell, there were some months I'd pay for an Eve sub just to keep the queues going, even though I didn't play it. |

blah blah blah
from an airbore swine. There's only one reason to AFK. That reason is, is that you're a selfish douche who thinks you're more important than the other 15 members of your team that you are screwing over. If the game is boring, don't play. This game already gives you passive SP. How big a douche do you actually have to be in order to still AFK? None of your justification is meaningful because it's all about you. You, you you. In the meantime, you are part of the problem by helping ruin the game for people that actually do want to play. Please leave. Firstly, I'm quite comfy here, thank you. *Sips tea, adjusts monicle, and continues watching through the MCC shield*
I'm not trying to justify taking up a slot that would otherwise be a player contributing. I know it's detrimental to the other legitimate players. I'm explaining the reason why it's done. Whether or not you agree with it is a non-issue, since it'll be done either way.
Also, while yes the game does give you passive SP (bought 3 Omega boosters :3), it just doesn't compare to the amount you'd get when combined with the SP cap, being 180k (270k on a booster). If you don't combine the two, then you're going to be left hopelessly behind the rest of the flock, which is why we have this problem in the first place.
The rolling SP cap that's been talked about would fix this issue, allowing you to "save up" potential SP. So if you missed your cap last week by 30k, it'll carry over into the next week, giving you 210 potential SP.
As it is right now, you're being punished for not forcing yourself online every week to cap out. Whether or not you think it's fair that this alternative means of gaining SP exists (AFK MCC'ing) is also a non-issue, since, again, it'll happen either way.
I created this thread in hopes of some feedback as to the current situation of the game. The routine has become stale. If you've read previous posts made by me, I'm a diehard CCP fanboi that'll generally stand by CCP's views. I'm not even trolling when I say I'm doing this to better the community by bringing it to everyones attention why we do what we do. We're not proud of it, but how else are we to remain competitive without tearing our eyes out? The game as it is plays as one big grindfest a week, followed by 6 days of doing something you actually want to do.
Also, don't think I hate the game or anything. I love this game. I've been playing since Mordu's Private Trials, and back then, all of the visions CCP had for this game got everyone excited for the future, which we were hoping to be sooner. I'm not DEMANDING anything happen RIGHT KITTENING NOW, but the current state of the game leaves a lot to be desired. PvE will definetly have me clamoring back, and if I'm reading what the devs are talking about right, the slew of new things should keep people interested in playing (not AFK'ing) for the long term.
Finally, your last comment. I know I'm more important than the other fifteen proles romping through the sand. Why, you may ask? I'm The Amazing Flying Pig. I don't need an explanation. I'm me, they're them, and I'm vastly superior in all feats of strength and agility, more knowledgeable in all subjects (both academic and "street"), and make a fine roast when seasoned properly and tuirned slowly over an open flame. |

This is where the problem lies. As soon as I decide to take a break, I permanently put myself behind the crowd with no hope of ever catching back up. The game will not allow you to get back to where you could be if you miss just one week of SP capping (unless you want to do at least 180 1k wp games consecutively within a few days).
It's still a great game, and as prevoiusly stated, I have every intention on returning. I just don't like the fact that as soon as I do leave for the first week, I'll forever be behind, no matter how hard I try to catch up. This is why we have MCC AFK'ers - we get to stay caught up, while not playing. A rollover SP system would allow you the opportunity to work your way back up, but as it stands, this is the only way. |

Not entirely true. Once you have around 7~8 million SP you can have both proto suit and weapon you want to specialize +core skills. After that you can simply quit playing if you're bored and let passive SP accumulate till next build. But you spent $200 (wow) on boosters and **** and I can agree you're right now forced to AFK so that you consume those active boosters and not let them go to waste. After you consume them I highly suggest you take a break from Dust till next build/update. I'm a Gunnlogi pilot with close to 9m SP running a total of three Omega boosters (about halfway through my first one), with a couple of 30-day actives from merc packs waiting to be used. Saving up for when we get our advanced / proto tanks, or the Amarrian tank, whichever comes first. Gonna be a great day when I can sweep the field with a gigantic laser beam of death. |
