Making respec's AUR only will only put us in a P2W scenario, and we're already walking a pretty fine line with that as is. Making it available for ISK is too easy to abuse.
Not allowing respec's only punishes new players and older players who aren't hyper aware of spreadsheets and skill planning or who don't know how weapons / suits / equipment that they've never used will ultimately perform.
Unlike in EVE, there is nothing else for you to do. You either run your build, or you run militia. Period. Don't give me any of your meta crap, we're just talking about raw game mechanics here.
Combine that with CCPs maddening habit of drastically altering playstyles on a whim, and I have issues seeing why we shouldn't be given anywhere between 1-4 optional respecs per year. It's fair for everyone. If someone made a horrible build their first time, then they will likely do it again, unless they actually seek help and make the best of their optional respec.

The idea of this game is that your decisions and your actions have consequences. When you decide to do one thing, it could stop you from doing another. By spending skill points on one thing, it will take you a while to skill save up the points to skill into something else. By adding the ability to change your mind, you are just trivialising what should be a very important choice. By making it a pay option, it just becomes a pay to win option where you can just pay X Aurum to spec into the flavour of the month. Things change in terms of ballence quite often, by skilling into what is considered the most powerful option, you should accept the risk that it may change instead of paying for the option of getting something new. This is why CCP will not allow people to respec any time they want, thats why im majorly against anything like this. Except that your actions DON'T have consequences, other than possibly RUINING any fun you can have with this game because you aren't a 1337 spreadsheet master and you screw up your build a little. As much as you might want to believe that this game has any ties to EVE, they're minor and trivial at best. I used to be against respec's, but at least in EVE if you screw up your SP a bit, you still have a TON to do. You know what you do in DUST if you screw up your SP? You get bored, die, or both. Great for the game, I know. I'm so happy that this is open for discussion and that we're hashing out ways to help new and old players alike properly spend their SP, or give them options to revert bad decisions made through a painful lack of information or guidance. |

What you can expect as game balance is prioritized:
- If you currently have what you feel is a "super weapon" it's probably going to be knocked down a few pegs.
- If they decide to completely remove part of the skill tree, anyone who invested points in that section will have their points reimbursed. (they did it in eve when they reworked the charisma skills & when they eliminated the learning skills in EVE)
We're still missing the "Skill Spikes" and "Skill Clusters" that were advertised as options for getting into weapons that we aren't already able to use. I can't wait to taste the tears from those. |

You don't lock players into a path and then change that path dramatically, that's an easy way to lose your audience.
No offense bro, your gaming life probably consists of COD, EVE and DUST.
They should just let players respec and get things balanced for PS4, if they are going to still follow through, this game will be dead in 5 months with PS4 releasing, I'd gladly play a next gen COD, KIllzone and Planetside 2 over DUST and barring a miracle I'll play them over a next gen DUST as well.
Players here are so short sighted and really clueless about gaming, their hasn't been one successful shooter that has FORCED players to use a certain gun or FORCED them to play a certain role, while that role/item/weapon receives major NERFS and change's on a monthly basis...

Well for me personally... I like games like Dust, were you HAVE to pick a role and us it. I honestly don't like it where you can freely respec into another role but its up to CCP and I hope they don't allow respec, unless it truly need to be done. If they add as a AUR option, make it $20 for those desperate people |

Players are going to change to the most fashionable thing anyways, it's just going to take a bit longer or they'll decide it's not worth the time and quit playing entirely.

Give us a week of unlimited SP that can only be utilized in pub matches after CCP has got the skill tree to satisfactory conditions and after they puit in place holders for the other suits so that we may try out of range if different tactics we were unable to experiment before with slower sp gains. After that allow an option to respec into the character we are sure we want to build.
If CCP wants to use AUR to allow for respecs I would agree with it as long as it only allows us to respec a portion of our SP (30%, 20%, and10% packages maybe) with the price varying based on your total SP. Afterwards you can take sp out certain skills until you reach the limit of your percentage. To get the exact percentage allow players to take out a portion of sp out of the last skill giving them a discount to get it back. Also limit the purchase of SP respec to a max of 30% per month. |

30% would never work, nothing less then 100 would work.
As players with more SP would get more value, dumb idea.

Generally speaking, I'm against SP respecs; along as the game skill tree is generally complete and not changing drastically. But that ain't Dust at the moment.....
Given Dust's current state I'm all for 1 or 2 (max) respecs per year.
Seriously, with all the things that are not out yet (weapons, dropsuits, vehicles) and all the things that are still getting tweaked, it's just too much to ask of people to save their SP for a 'plan' based on so many assumptions on future items/stats.
"Welcome to new Eden" would be okay if this were really new Eden. But it's not... it's not even real life. It's a game. And if there aren't some consessions made to the player base the game could end up tanking.
So, "Welcome to the real world"

Allowing respecs freely makes the fact we have sp meaningless though. If they allow that then just throw away the SP system entirely instead of worrying about respecs. |

Dust will be constantly updated with new balances, items, vehicles, dropsuits, etc. We would have to allow a respec 1 or 2 times a year every year until dust is no more..... I do not want that to happen because that instantly takes away a lot of depth and risk away which will make this game boring IMO. Your supposed to specialize not go and change to the next OP weapon every 6 months. If this happened it would make the game a lot less diverse since everyone will simply change to the most OP weapon there is. |

Actually I'm quite happy with my build.
I'm sorry that I think newer players or older players that aren't as aware of or proficient with the fitting system should have some kind of option to help them out of bad or misguided decisions (considering the unsettling lack of anything resembling direction or tutorials). There are so many ways to build a bad character, or what started off as an interesting playstyle might lose its luster.
If you force people to stick with an option that they no longer enjoy, and you give them NO way out of it, and you tell them that, they get bored, set down the game, and go play something else. No more potential AUR from that customer, as well as potential bad reviews and word of mouth.
I went with AR Heavy because I <3 Heavies, and no matter how hard they nerf the AR, it will always be a superior weapon. I've been learning the aim still, since in over a year of DUSTing, I've only used it maybe for a week or two right when I first began in March '12
