Swarms are broken as we all know. They have such good range and lock on that the guy fireing at you can be far enough away not to render and be nothing more than a dot when he does. Then his swarms only draw in when they are in unavoidable range with the next volley already on the way before you even see the first.
Obviously as a DS pilot I know that the DS is far far too weak, to vulnerable and too big on its hotbox and draw range. But even if this was fixed the swarms tracking is just too good for a FaF weapon.
The tracking needs a huge change. I died to a milia swam today when I hugged, and I mean a few feet, the outer wall of a warehouse. The swarmer had hit me twice and was. But he managed to hit me when the swarms went over the top of the building and did. 90 degree turn from straight along to straight down. Killed me. STUPID
There was no way to avoid it. No skill in positioning to dodge that. It's broken and unbalanced. Lockin rage needs to be halved and the tracking really reduced. |

The current Swarm Launcher mechanics are the result of over a year of careful adjustment and continuous inclusion of the player's feedback. You're breaking the heart of someone at CCP if you tell him that his work basically amounts to what school kids do in their spare time when they try to make a Unreal3 mod with their friends. |

I kind of disagree. Against good tanks I think they aren't OP. I do know what you mean with drop shops though, but they already have a lot of problems.
Would suggest that when drop ships get their overhaul that some sort of "target lock alarm" be implemented to alert pilots of incoming swarms (does this exist already? ), and Secondly to create a new "flares" module that can be used a few times to destroy incoming swarms.
Other vehicles could benefit from this as well if needed, although I think only the lower level ones at the moment.
I haven't owned high level tanks myself but some seem very hard to destroy even with teir 3 swarms. This is just my own personal experience.

I was clearly on about dropships. In the air on most maps there is nowhere to hide. You are a big target that draws in clearly for your attacker when the pilot has zero chance to see the swarmer.
A fight should allow some measure of response. Evasion, counter whatever. But when my counter class can see me and hit me before I can see him, when his weapons draw in so close to me that's I cannot react then there is no balance.
Tanks have the defence of ground cover. Even open maps have boxes, rocks etc.. Many things to break Line of sight. In the air I have none of this. As such a pilot needs more methods of defence than a tank or a lav as putting objects between me and him is most often not viable.
I'm an air ship. I need to be in the air. Think of it like mcc sniping. No matter where you are on the map the sniper can see you. But it's worse its like an mcc sniper who could be anywhere on the map sniping you from such range you can not see him yet he can see you everywhere. |

I've flown with dropship pilots this build (that's pilots plural mind you) who have been able to deal with swarms (again plural, meaning more than one AV guy targeting them at the same time) through use of evasive maneuvers and sheer speed. Now I'm a Logi and sometime vehicle gunner so I can't fly like they can, but then again I can't land a DS half the time without catching fire. Point is there most certainly are ways within the current game structure to use player skills to trump swarms (these guys usually only bug out in the face of either A)Protos or B) more than 3 AV guys.... one forge however is considered a real threat).
