This. I just started a few days ago (Wednesday IIRC)...and I've already hit the Active SP cap by Saturday afternoon.
Keep in mind, I worked 47 hours this week. I only play games a few hours a night. I am by no means a pro at FPS. Just got my PS3 last Christmas, and since then I have completed just the first runs through Dark Souls Uncharted 1 & 2, and just beat BL2 for the first playthrough this past week. I waited to finish BL2 before doing Dust because the locked x-axis mode gives me trouble---didn't want to be hopping b/t the two control schemes (invert x-axis, can we have it?). Otherwise, the only remotely similar games I've played were Doom, Descent, Quake, and trials for Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. When was that... 80's, early 90's? Until 2013, it had been a lifetime (in the scope of the gaming industry) since I was in anything resembling online FPS style game play, and even then it wasn't ONLINE play, so it's not even remotely on the level of this game experience. So, yeah... I have NO idea wtf I am doing in this Dust 514.
SP cap or WP is GROSSLY imbalanced if the goal is to nerf the hardcore and promote the new player. Current setup will just thrust new players into public before they are ready for it (whether you look at it from player skill or skill tree, it can be applied both ways). Either allow them to advance their skills more by increasing the Academy's Active SP cap, or increase the WP cut-off for leaving the academy. The latter may be the better option, as it would provide the new players more time to get acccustomed to the gameplay, and as a side effect they will have more SP to make corrections in their trees--as the new player may be prone to making mistakes that can't be undone.
Despite my noobness... I still managed to break the 9500 WP mark, around 10M ISK, and something like 860k SP in roughly half a week of "casual" play. This is running around in Militia sets, no boosters, mostly just hacking b/c I can't hit for $h!t with the unfamiliar axis control (left/right is backwards to how I've played for over 20 years). My K/D ratio is 0.24....so, yeah... I SUCK at this game. And yet.... I reached the active SP cap in just a few nights of game play. I am the epitome of noob---never played FPS online in my life, just downloaded the game and am still trying to find my way, but now I'm getting choked down after just a few nights of playing.
At least if they doubled the Academy cutoff, I could continue on with trying to master the unfamiliar controls before I get thrown into the "OMFG WTF just happened, I'm dead in 5 seconds" mode of the game. Instead, I feel like I need to stop playing before I hit that 10K WP cutoff so I can get enough SP to upgrade a few critical skills before jumping into the public arena. |
