I get the same(Roughly) amount of cash/skillpoints in my militia suits, and prototype suits.
Why this is an issue:
I can die 10 times in militia suits and die once in a prototype fit and make less in the prototype fit. You're hardly invincible in prototype fittings, you just die quite a lot less but the point is you do.
I feel I need a reason other than I'll die or kill more to use prototype fittings. The point of Eve or Dust I feel is to make money, and using extremely expensive suits when I could instead use free ones with the exact same output of cash I feel the choice is obvious.
I'm not going to suggest anything to solve this problem, because I think CCP has some solutions in mind already. I just thought I could set up this thread for discussion of the topic, and in case they really aren't. Reasons why it isn't an issue:
You shouldn't be wasting expensive equipment on public matches. In corporation matches either your corporation or a funding EVE corporation should be supplying you money. While this isn't possible yet, I do believe it is the intention. Funding a battle of prototype equipment is nothing to an individual EVE player, let alone a corporation, and not to speak of an Alliance. I can afford a single Madrugar HAV hull in 5 seconds of work in EVE.
EVE has a system of diminished returns. The higher grade and more expensive equipment is never going to give you as much of an advantage as you initially expect. A single battleship, with all of its tank and DPS, can be taken down effortlessly by even a lone frigate. Your cost? 200+ million ISK. Theirs? Less than 20 million.
You already have much higher skill points than other people if you're running prototype equipment, and you'll already have the edge stat-wise even if you're only running militia equipment. After that, situational awareness, player skill, and luck play into who is coming out of the engagement alive. Don't trust prototype equipment to make you better at the game.
My suggestion? Run standard and advanced equipment, not Prototype, unless you are being funded externally. You're a mercenary, your employers should be providing you with the latest and greatest technology if they want you to get the job done. Besides, Advanced equipment is a good blend of cheap cost with good power. |
