No, we don't need ingame story. Out of game yes. But ingame it was always the players who wrote the story. PvE Missions are already planned. I hope they add them soon. |

FW not so much, it's pretty much just a "I'm better than you thing" mixed with cheap easy to find PVP and the ability to make money from it, not that many people know or care about the story. |

It's just as player-driven as everything else in EVE, but made far less complicated than null-sec by having you fight for factions instead of trying to manage your own territory. |

PvE missions would be kinda weird because the Story would change the universe. So what would happen if one squad already finished the campaign missions and another didn't? Dust is a MMO. The PvE missions they planned didn't sound like story missions to me. |

I would like to see players forging their owns stories a lot more too. I tend to make most FW matches I play into short excerpts from a narrative I writing about Adamance.
If I was in a PC corp like this I would be writing these kinds of stories. |

Faction Warfare
Amarr Vs. Minmatar Amarrian's held Minmatar Slaves, Minmatar Revolted. Now taking revenge. That's the STORY behind that faction warfare battle.
Caldari Vs. Gallente Caldari and Gallente formed from similar backgrounds, they lived close enough they had a war previous, Caldari lost their home planet. Tibus Heth struck back, holding an entire planet hostage. (Now defunct strategy). STORY behind Faction Warfare.
As to PvE as Campaign missions.
You have mini arcs. This corporation wants A from THAT corporation. you get it...
This militia wants to infiltrate and free prisoners of war hekld by THAT militia...
These are repeatable styles of mission, similar to what EVE Online currently does. Yes, they have some small impact on the universde, but not so major that Company A wont want Company B's item... or that there will be more PoWs to rescue. |

Of course we make our own stories... but CCP has proven that they are pretty good at making stories themselves. Even having them impact on the game world itself. The lore of EVE is part of what makes EVE so great.
Faction Warfare tied to renewa lof hostilities between the 4 factions.
Wormholes were story-driven element when they were introduced.
Incursions are story driven (return of Sansha).
Within these stories is where each person creates their own story. You're a soldier, fighting for the Gallente Militia (or Caldari, or Amarr etc) Your story will be different from everyone elses... why? Because it's YOU who's experiencing it. YOU who's fighting the war your way.
This happens in most games where there's even a hint of story. In this game, and New Eden in general, it was FOUNDED on story... the gameplay branches from that.
Even the recent destruction of the Caldari Leviathan around it's hostage planet...

Irt would be possible to create dynamic story line missions using procedurally generated content. It wouldn't have to be grand world chngine adventures, but it would be less repetative than random missions.
CCP tends to be procedurally generated content averse though. There are some elements of procedural generation in Eve. But little is actively used.
Im not sure why this is. |

For those who suggest that only the players ever create the story.. how did the sansha invasion take place and the incursion system enter eve? How did wormholes get introduced? Why did Black Rise region appear.. there is tons of in game events , that were partially player driven but were in place by ccp to explain the why of new things occurring. So it is not that out there to want some type of story line to this. Maybe one day we will get a small campaign mode or something that goes a little more in depth about the reasons we ae here and what we continue to fight for. |
