It's pretty clear that it caters to PC gamer no-lifers with it's "play-to-win" aspects, endless SP grind, and superiour KB/M controls. The PC gamers are the most die hard fans of this game, you can just tell just by the way they nerdgasm all over the forums that they are from EVE/PC.
So why is it even on PS3? It would be way more successful on PC. Seems like a bad decision.

Because maybe not every game that tries to have a larger scope absolutely has to be on PC? I think they're too be commended for trying to bring a larger-scale and more immersive experience to a console, even if there is still a lot of work to be done. |

Maybe at some point they will release it on PC as well.

No, read it again. I said play-to-win. This game is absolutely play-to-win. When there is a battle between people using low level/militia gear and someone with superiour gear, skill matters very little in this game. If the new player is a far better player than the person who has grinded for all that good gear, he will most likely still die. |

Sorry, my mistake.
I certainly don't have a problem with playing to win. If you put time in, you deserve to have better things than newbies.
I only have 3.9 mil SP myself, alot of it wasted in stupid areas because I didn't know what I was doing at the time. Even so, I still routinely do very well in matches. It's all about how you play imo. Stick with groups, learn to duck into cover to heal and let shields recharge and you'll be fine, regardless of time put in. Yes I get proto stomped in close quarters battles but that's perfectly fine. They put in more time and are rewarded with better gear, but you know what? They better watch out when it comes to range because I find very few proto players are any better than the average newbie. They just have better gear and that just means i'll have to use a few more bullets. |

No one is good at range because the controls and aiming in this game are so messed up |

Thanks for your time. EVE's view of Dust in a nutshell.
All Dust does is leach resources from EVE development.
If it wasn't related to the EVE universe it would not have ever been released.

So why is it even on PS3? It would be way more successful on PC. Seems like a bad decision.
What makes a console gamer so much less of a no lifer? In fact I've yet to meet a gamer who I would consider a no lifer.
(I'm imagining that guy from ZOmbieland for some reason as a no lifer)

If I had to guess I would say it is on PS3 because Sony already has a large population of FPSers and their credit card numbers one click away.
Not Xbox 360 due to Microsoft restricting Dust's communication with EVE. I read that somewhere long ago.
Not PC because they would have to convince people to put their credit cards in, which could work just fine, but Sony had tons of them ready to go. Also, PC can be a pain because the hardware is so different between the systems. This complicates testing and can affect many engineering decisions (like the range of resolutions and graphics quality).
Developing for a single game console is easier than for PC in some respects. For one, everyone has the exact same graphics hardware (or very little variation). With PC, more testing is required for graphics and networking. So, developing a game for a single system is simpler and allowed CCP to concentrate on the technical problems with their first game with a game engine and the linking to EVE and the distribution of battle clusters around the world that all communicate info back to the EVE servers in London.
Last thing, they used the Unreal engine, which like all grade A game engines, can deploy the same game to many platforms (PS3, Xbox, PC, Etc) without having to reprogram the entire game. Adjustments must be made. Optimizations must be made. But the vast majority of the code is only coded once. This means that they can (and likely will) publish for PC and Xbox One and PS4 in the future.
Some people hate on Unreal, but it can make some really beautifuls games. CCP will get the hang of it in time. The graphics of Dust will likely improve at a later time after they get past the technical problems they are facing now.
CCP has indicated some of this info in interviews and other parts are just speculation.

Why console? Because sales and studies and statistics and raw use numbers have irrefutably proven time and time again that FPSes have much higher usebases and sales whether "free" or not on consoles then on PC. PC has never been able to compete sales wise with consoles when it comes to FPSes.
If you want to sell a lot of copies or have a shitload of players for an FPS, go console.
Why PS3 and not XBOX? Microsoft wanted CCP to pay additional fees every time CCP wanted to update the game, as well as multiple other restrictions. |

based on %s of who actually replies in these forums, your probably right.
on PC the F2P market is so saturated a Console was a better business decision. |
