(and not the PC, friendly fire kind) I couldn't find anything this specific while searching the forums so I thought it best to ask for help here(and here's hoping it's in the right section.) After spending about half a month or so getting familiar with Dust, I've been having trouble deciding what kind of job would suit me best.
I tried infiltration and front-line but didn't work too well a midst the chaos, I tried heavy support and defense but found it slow and dull, I tried Sniping to be the epitome of monotony if doing it well, and I felt like I was always fighting an uphill battle with Logistics. I found that the majority of the time I had the most fun and was the most helpful when I was out in field, hacking turrets and using them, planting Proximity Mines, blowing up enemy vehicles, stealth killing, and running a little murder taxi.
TL;DR: I seem to work best at sabotage and want to focus a build on doing that.
Problem is I'm having a bit of trouble deciding what the optimal build for this may be. I know for sure that I want to upgrade grenades for AV and Flux when in combat, as well as proximity mines for traps, equipment destruction, and MCC defense. But that's where what I'm sure of ends. For this build, versatility seems to be key so it's hard to want to focus on one skill too hard, but some things may require it.
The scout suit would be helpful in some ways, but dying from 3 bullets and low PG/CPU is a big turnoff. Assault seems to be the best choice so far, but I can be convinced other wise. I'm getting a feel the Flaylock Pistol/SMG sidearm combo but they may not be destructive enough. Actually, I'm pretty sure about going for light vehicles as well but I don't know what would be best for that either.
TL;DR,A: I'm just looking for build suggestions for a quick, destructive and annoying saboteur, and any advice would be much appreciated. |

I main in AV, Swarms to be exact, and since I can't survive on the front lines as well as others I created a saboteur fit that has been doing me very well. Here's what I run:
ADV Minmatar medium frame 3x Enhanced shield extenders Basic Kinetic Catalyzer Basic Cardiac Regulator GEK-38 Flaylock Packed AV Proximity Mines
With this fit your sprint speed is faster than some scouts and you have a lot of sustain with the extenders. This way you have a nice blend of speed and shield tanking. I flank enemies while the front line engages them, and am well defended against LAVs. The proximity explosives are for those freebee kills and trapping AV. I've taken a few tanks by setting traps and raining grenades on them after they run over explosives. The key to this sort of role is awareness, and know what you can and cannot take down. Also to rely on running away and circling back on your targets.
The downside to this fit is I tend to run out of ammo before I die and am scrambling around looking for someone with a nanohive or a supply depot.
I run a comedy/AV Bullfighting fit with a SMG/Flaylock combo. You're honestly at a huge disadvantage because you only have one range because you're going to want to run their shields down with the SMG then switch and one shot them with the flaylock. Closing that distance can be tricky unless the environment is in your favor.
I'd recommend skilling up your hacking skill if you want to do some ninja hacking. |

Thanks for the reply Cyrius
Lots of good ideas, and some of that setup is very similar to what I was looking into. The main thing I can't decide on suit-wise is going Medium Minmatar or Medium Gallente. With the Minmatar, you get the speed enhancement and sidearm enhancement with tier 2 suits, as well as damage mods and shield tanking. With the Gallente, you are slower but naturally armor tank, and it has more LP equipment which seems a lot better for a saboteur's job (codebreaker, profile dampener, range amplifier, etc.) I'm leaning towards Gallente, but I'm still not sure. It will probably come down to the weapon I use.
The reason I wanted to go with dual sidearms was to save on SP, but to get a decent flaylock you have to spend as much as it would take to get a Light Weapon. So that's now left open. Whichever weapon it may be, I would prefer it to end encounters with minimal fire. I'm thinking the TAC or SR, and not because they're FOTM weapons, but because they're mid-long range weapons that deal high damage with good aim, and that seems like it would be crucial to this build.
Other than those two things, the build is starting to come together. |

Other than those two things, the build is starting to come together. I'd definitely go for a Logi suit, you need those equipment slots. Minmatar logi + Kinetic Catalyzers and some SP in biotic upgrades should give you decent sprint speed. The only downside is 1 weapon slot, so pick something that works fairly well close range and be OK medium range. Assault rifle? Scrambler rifle?
I'd go: Complex shield extenders Weapon Remote Explosive Proximity Mine RE/Nanohive Kinetic catalyzer and the stamina ones
The proto and advanced RE have a shorter time to be primed, and I find running away from a target and dropping an RE to be detonated when they give chase pretty fun! |

Good advice, going logistics would actually fix a few of the problems I was going to run into with this build. And, since I'm usually going to be out of the way of many direct firefights, having lower HP would still work out. That does raise the question however, should I focus on getting the logisuit first, or focus on getting my equipment, like the grenades and REs? At least for my first 500,000 SP. |

EDIT: Just tried out ant fell in love, LOVE with the scramble rifle...where has this thing been the whole time >_> 500K SP isn't enough to be looking at the dropsuits, but I'd push towards them asap regardless. If you already have 500kSP free, save up and dump it into getting an advanced minnie logi suit which has 4 slots i believe, or is it the proto that has 4 slots, not sure so you'll have to check. At the very least I think the basic suit gives you 3 equip slots.
Reason is, it doesn't take too long to save up SP for the explosives, less than 200k in total i think, whereas getting to your advanced logi suit will take quite a long time.

Right on then, I'm going to try out one more test build before going forward but I should be set. I'll give an update in a few days from now to see how it's going. Until then....I really hope I can get over the logi color scheme (it makes my eyes sad.)
Thanks again for the advice :) |

The ADV minnie has 3 slots.
I'm interested to hear your decision. I personally love this play style as a second "job." |

Original Poster here. Thought I should give an update on how things went. After making a few test builds, I decided not to go with the logisuit, for a couple of reasons. Mainly that I preferred the versatility of two weapons over the versatility of 3 equipment slots (I'm finding the SR, FP, Flux combo to be amazingly effective for almost every situation save AV.) I still have the remote explosives in the equipment slot and I'm sticking to the basic gallente armor and armor tanking (I thought it was more important to be effective until I get assault suits, than to have the assault suits early.) I've also put a few points into getting the Methana LAV.
My general game plan in most matches now is hack turrets early on and use them until they inevitably are destroyed (my main source of AV atm). Then I hack null cannons(if available) and place a few remote explosives there so I can keep on the move to other objectives. In combat, I almost always start the attack with the scrambler rifle or flux grenades to take out enemy shields(depending on range) and then finish off with the flaylock. I occasionally run murder taxi's if the map is good for it, but it's usually to dangerous a prospect and not worth the risk (yet). Once in a blue moon I can use the REs to get a vehicle kill, but only in ambush, and very rarely does it work out because of the slow startup.
With this current build, it's probably the first time I'm having fun and doing well in Dust514 post Academy. It's very jack of all trades, which isn't recommended I know, but it's the versatility that keeps me alive and plays to my strengths (which is quick effective decision making).
At the moment I'm focused on getting the advanced SR, then the advanced REs, and after that the long road to better dropsuits will begin.
Gallente medium frame 2x Basic Armor Plates Militia CPU Upgrade Basic Shield Extender Scrambler Rifle GN-13 Flaylock Flux Grenades Proximity Mines @790,000sp
So much more to do, but at least I'm enjoying getting there now. |
