drones probably wont be coming for about 5-6 months, when the next expansion launches... the real problem i foresee is going to be 'whats the point'... they talked about not opening up the flood gates on the economy very fast... and not linking EVE and DUST, industry wont be possible... they have given us none of the tools to be a stand alone game like they said would be important(for each game to be able to persist without the other)...
they have mentioned they intend to farm our production needs out to the EVE Side industry... which is simply screwing us left, right and center by removing SP sinks for vet players, removing specialization goals for newbros, and limiting our industry capabilities for the short-mid term future until they do something about the EVE-DUST connection in the long run...
so with no industry and no economy, drones are simply going to end up an extremely glitchy experience thats going to end up being more annoying than the 'functioning' pvp content, without providing any ACTUAL incentive to play aside from a change of pace from PVP content...
dont get me wrong, i am looking forward to PVE content... but i do not expect it to be pleasant when it does finally arrive... |

A'Real Fury wrote:This is not what I would prefer as I would like squad based PVE. However, a good place to start would be solo PVE. In essence you would download a PVE game and play it locally on your Playstation and the results of the game would be sent back to CCP servers and it updates your online toon based on these results e.g. Better weapons and mods etc. This way you would avoid issues of Internet lag and latency as you would in effect be playing a regular non mmo game. They could even set up mini adventures that you can download as you qualify for them in PVP.
And while we occupy ourselves playing this version of PVE and the PVP we are currently playing CCP can work out the issues for online group PVE.
you will be hardpressed to make a case for DUST Offline, primarily because the characters are all saved server-side. but latency issues should be reduced having a single team rather than 2 full teams participating. not to mention that OFFLINE modes are generally riddled with exploits and modding which would end up ruining the purpose of the offline mode you suggest or worse yet ruining the ACTUAL game with an excessive influx of ill-gotten gains
as far as the content theyve mentioned, it sounds like they intend for 2 initial battlemodes, wave survival(horde/firefight) and bug hunt(seek and destroy).
the problem i anticipate is that there will be little to no meaning for this mode until they introduce industry based content, which will have to be fragged out to EVE to do anything with, UNLESS they change their stance on that soon... because as things stand, DUST equipment, especially in regards to meta levels, are set up NOTHING like EVE side industry... DUST industry is going to be a joke unless some serious overhauls are made...
case and point, proto dropsuits i believe are meta 7? proto weapons are meta 8 and 9? and all standard/militia grade gear are meta 1. EVE Industry is only capable of producing t1(meta 0) and, after invention, t2(meta 5), and a select few meta6+ blueprint copies that are found as loot/mission rewards.
it wont be meaningful or fit into the EVE lore unless they make a t2 standard, t2 adv, and t2 proto gear to justify each item having its own BPO and adding invention tiers to it. and that in no way is going to be a good and or practical idea as it would only exacerbate the already excessive gap between new and old players... the other option is reworking the invention process for DUST BPOs specifically for dust, which they would be better off creating a whole new line of industry skills than trying to convert the existing invention to a multi-tiered invention output system. |

A'Real Fury wrote:Nah Academy is scary. The few games I played groups of blues were attacking and holding objectives, there were barely any murder taxis and you constantly got invites to squad but we will beat that out them when they join the regular game.
However, my experiences in the Academy on my alt only strengthens my belief that they need more time before graduating as it is currently no preparation for the open game.
academy only serves as a buffer for people to invest in the game before they realize how bad the gap between them and vets are... the near complete lack of any tutorial system is not solved by the academy, it simply reduces the frustration level of getting protostomped while you attempt to figure out wtf is going on. |

Couldn't agree more. They need a proper tutorial system but until they do CCP should extend the time spent in the Academy so players come out with a decent SP balance. The difference between the Academy and open play is enormous and it must be incredibly disheartening having that nice positive kdr get destroyed not because the opponent is much better than you but because there proto fits and passive sp skills are such that you are no more than a bug on the windscreen with your 700-800k of SP. As a vet I won't say we haven't earned that advantage but for player retention I think new players should have more time to learn the game before facing us. Hell create training grounds where vets and newbs can interact in a non competitive manner I.e. no leader board, kdr or WP so the vets can pass along some tips. This would have to be managed carefully and significant restriction would have to be placed on the vets e.g. They are only their in observer mode or a weak starter fit. Vets could be granted benefits for volunteering their time. You could have challenge modes to show off proto fits such as 2 proto vets against 16 academy players just for variety.
well there have been people requesting a restriction mode to allow players to fight in standard or militia suits only, to prevent the overhwelming gear advantage on top of the SP advantage. if you were to put a penalty on the SP earned, to prevent people from ONLY playing the restricted battles. though im not sure how much effort would be required to configure a suit and or module restriction for playmodes... but even just a suit limitation, reducing the over all slot loadouts and CPU/PG a vet player can field would create a more balanced playing field that new-bros could start getting accustomed to the nature of the battles, rather than facing advanced or proto weapons on suits with 2-3x their own HP on a very regular basis. |
