Make the LAV take damage based on the speed they hit someone, and make the dropsuit take damage based on their suit type.
Heavies should put a dent in the LAV, depending on the speed the LAV is going. The heavy will sustain quite a bit of damage too, but it shouldn't kill him.
Medium suits damage the LAV, but to a lesser extent, and are most likely flattened at 80mph. Up to 30mph no damage is done to either and the LAV just moves the player and gets slowed down. Perhaps a little damage to the medium.
Scouts should be flattened by an LAV going 50mph, but even still that LAV needs to be quite a ways to get up to speed. Scouts do the least amount of damage, but then again they can dodge a charging LAV much easier.
No need to remove free LAV because that wouldn't solve the problem. I'm not opposed to killer vehicles, but I am opposed to vehicles that do damage that to me seems extremely unrealistic. My medium frame should be able to withstand an LAV charge from 10 feet away, hell it withstands the heat of my plasma AR... |

"Stay off the road then" "The LAV goes 0 - superfast in 1 second, zoom ZOOM!!" "You play too much pub."
Yes, I work about 60 hours a week and like to play the occasional quick match so honestly if CCP doesn't ever change a thing I can keep from dying by LAV. I do however think this game really has something special, and the LAV was meant as a quick transportation or scout/logi vehicle. |

I must admit i enjoy driving a LAV and just making road kills all over the place its FUN. But i also think it sux that we can do it so easy, and i also have to admit that i HATE when it happens to me. hehe
I've gotten a few LAV kills as well and when I'm dying like crazy or it seems I can't hit the broad side of a barn, it feels pretty damn good. Then again, it's just too easy. It removes any differences between suit types, or even LAV types for that matter.
What if you specc'd all the way up to whatever highest most armoured LAV there is, shouldn't you be able to ram someone without it totalling your vehicle? You might not kill them entirely, but you are doing damage and might get an assist. Or, you might finish them off.
I guess my point is, if LAV, or vehicles in general (personal speeder bikes, anyone??) can be used as a weapon, let's treat them as such, with positives and negative strategies. |

Has everyone seen Iron Man 3 yet? I kept thinking of Dust while watching it last week, and how if we're in these really crazy tricked out dropsuits why we can be completely killed by someone ramming us from 10 feet away with their LAV. I sortof think the Heavy would fall into the "almost Iron Man" category. ;) |

Bumpers also have contact shaped charges in them that blow goats, sheep and mercs away from them when they are within an inch of the bumper so as not to chip the pain.

Heh, today I played a match with about 5 LAV on each side buzzing around trying to run people over. About half-way through everyone was up on structures, it reminded me of that game kids play "Stay Off The Lava".
I'm curious to get a dev's thoughts on this, because modifying the physics to take into account LAV HP & suit types does have an impact.
And to people who say "get out of the way".... you're short sighted if you think a game can survive for very long without faux-realistic sci-fi gameplay. A proto heavy should stop an LAV in its tracks, shouldn't it?? |
