So I tried PS2 for a bit, but left it pretty soon. Yes the game has its strong points, but the fun is extracted from the gameplay alone. Outside of that what you are doing does not matter, as per the multiple servers and the game's ultimately limited shelf life (eventually there will be a number 3). This is of course the point where the 'Dust will fail' guys will go up in arms about the limited shelf life and all, but here is a fun fact, there are 'this is the end' threads on the EVE forums as well. Ultimately, I love the fact that the New Eden universe is persist and that there is (and always will be) only one instance of it. Probably the best explanation I could find of this sentiment is in a recent video from JohnyPew, which you can find here.

We have a policy of kicking inactive members after one week, and by the time I came in, he was most of the way through what turned out to be almost 50 inactives, and he's been kicking some every day. This after GU9, which introduced Lattice, the feature that was supposed to give "direction" to combat and finally deliver on the "massive battles" the game advertised. In this same patch, they introduced Zealot Overdrive Engine for the Vanu Sovereignty MAX suits (Heavy power-armor), that allowed them to strafe like regular infantry and also gave them a weapon damage bonus, resulting in every VS player on every server Certing into that ability and destroying anyone unfortunate enough to play as Terran Republic and New Conglomerate. I actually don't even know if they've fixed that yet. Also, the new swamp continent Hossin, a new type of base to fight over, and actual functioning warpgates to allow for cross-continent warfare and kicking enemy factions off of continents have been on the Planetside 2 roadmap for months. They have been set to Unscheduled, and in particular were left out of this update in favor of Instanced Battle Islands for MLG. I actually forgot to go back and watch that when it showed up in my Subscription updates. Very well said.
