So for a few weeks now I have been having issues with getting DC'd from PSN, in turn throwing me from Dust. However, sometimes, I would get DC'd from Dust and shortly thereafter, get thrown from PSN. It was strange, because I had internet access on all of my other devices. At first, I thought it must be CCP or even PSN, but Pings and Tracroutes ruled that out. So after some extensive research I came across several other PS3 players having similar issues, not in Dust, but with PSN. As it turns out it seems that some ISP companies who are robbing us of our hard earned cash are lining pockets and not upgrading infrastructure, in this case DSN servers.
So I changed my DSN and after a week of solid testing, I have not had a single issue with getting DC'd. The Open DNS Project uses these two DNS numbers:
208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220
If your DNS on your PS3, then perhaps you'll no longer have issues. I haven't and I assure you it's not because my ISP has suddenly upgraded their infrastructure. I'm not saying that it is a cure all, I'm saying that it worked for me in my situation and if you are having similar issues, it might work for you as well.
As far as using the above DNS numbers, I would do my own research before just changing the numbers. I saw no security reason not to go with it, but some people may feel differently. There is no software or anything like that to download either. |

I'd also like to add that it is easy to do and does not require you to setup your network all over again, if you are wireless. You just go past everything until you get to Setup DNS, select Manual, put in the numbers, and go through the rest of the setup without changing anything, then run the test. |

Not that I know of. The company is a US company, but I'm not sure if they are location specific or not. |

That being said, I no longer get booted from PSN but I still get DCs. I can at least recover quicker in this instance.
Yeah, I used Google as well, but I never just accept the first thing I come to, so I checked several different places to confirm the issue would be resolved and I also wanted to check out the Open DNS Project, as it was the top rated provider for the DNS IPs. I have too many things connected to my network to trust the first answer that I find. Sadly however, a lot of uninformed people do, which is why I said that people should do their own research and not to just take my word for it. |

Kain Reaver83 wrote:I'm getting DCed a lot as well but the message I'm getting is "The server is unavailable." Have you any suggestions to help prevent this from happening as much? Or is this something CCP has to fix themselves?
Try the DNS fix.
The reason I say that is because the way all my issues would go was that I'd get DC'd from Dust, then try to reconnect after restarting the game. Right after I would get back into game, I would DC again, then get DC'd from PSN. Sometimes with the PSN DC I'd get a DSN error. The crazy thing about it was that it was so inconsistent. I would get DC'd back to back over and over again and it would always require me to have reset my Modem and Router. Even after that, I'd get DC'd from Dust and PSN, then later in the day, I wouldn't have any issues at all. So it's hard to say if it is Dust or not, especially if the issue isn't happening to most of the players.
Sometimes the issue could be local or regional to you as well. Even Provider specific. I would start with the DSN trick and see if that helps. If it doesn't, then run a tracroute to the TQ server and see what is happening there, as it could be an issue with a web server being down somewhere in the route. |

Most of which are due to "Internal error" not simply "You have been disconnected from the servers".
So, not too sure this will help, but worth a try for some.
I myself haven't' seen these since Uprising was released. I always got those whenever I tried to load my contacts list back in the Chrome build. Then I would have to reset my whole PS.
The only other issue that I have had recently was this past weekend with black screens when trying to load into a match. I'd still have VO, but no visuals. I attribute that the DDOS attempt. |

I didn't know Google had a public DNS server. Good to know. |

KOBLAKA1 wrote:Does this help with fps/lag issues/stuck on loading screens at all?
I've never had an issue with graphics or network lag, so I don't know. As for getting stuck on loading screens, I have had the black screen several times, but not since changing my DNS. I have never been stuck on the loading screen with the background and indicator, so I have no idea if this will work. Worth a try and perhaps it will be one more thing that will help players. |

Easy to turn back on if you then want to watch something off your MS later.
Yeah there are actually several things that you do to help. For FPS issues, as another poster above said they had, you can do several things that can help with lag, as well as network issues. The constant on connection of things like Media Server can pose an issue with Network connections, but as far as lag goes there are other things.
This is from a post I made in a thread concerning issues with PC lag:
Deadeye Dic wrote:I have a theory about this. First let me say that I have never played PC so I have not experienced the lag you guys are talking about. In fact, I have not experienced lag in any game mode at all. That being said, I have noticed that there is an extreme amount of HDD activity while I play. So I'm curious, could some of this lag be because of HDDs with 60% or more of their capacity used? I have experienced frame rate issues in other games and have used this link to solve many FPS issues in the past. The one thing that I DO NOT recommend from that list, is the use of canned air to clean your PS3. That is a bad idea. One thing that I do recommend with the PS3 is the use of a laptop cooling pad. I started using one and my system runs much better than it did without it. If you are insistent on using canned air to clean your PS, then I would highly recommend that you take the case apart before doing so. By blowing air into the system, you are actually just forcing the dust into the system and therefore possibly causing it build up on things like the CPU or GPU of the system, which in turn insulates the components and makes it hard for them to be cooled. Some quick things you can do, particularly if you don't use your PS3 for movie watching is: - set BD/DVD upscaler off - set HDMI 24 FPS off - HDMI audio set should be put on bitstream - turn off upscaler/smoother - disable system display notify, media server, other automatic settings I have all these things turned off, since I have a Blu-Ray player. A note on the HDMI 24FPS. I'm not sure if the PS3 forces this setting to only movies or not, but the concept behind it is that most movies are filmed at 24 fps, but on DVD/Blu-Ray they are printed at 60 FPS. Since most people who watch movies think 24 fps is better (we've been trained to think this because of that is what we have watched all our lives) then this setting forces 24 fps. If this were to translate to anything that is passing through your HDMI, then your PS3 could be limiting FPS and not the game code. I hope this information helps some of you guys out and good luck.
Perhaps some of these things will also help solve other issues players are having.

Alright, I ran a few more tests. It seems that I get even better speeds if I apply the DNS to my router. By using the DNS on my router, all of my devices seem to be accessing the webpages faster. In this case, I used Google's DNS address', mentioned above, and found a noticeable difference in page loading, especially on Dust forum pages and the home page.
To the person who asked about wired or wireless....DNS will work on either, however, if you have a router, I would suggest that you just change the DNS on your router, save the settings, and reboot the router. |

Judge Rhadamanthus wrote:Deadeye Dic wrote:Grezkev wrote:Defrag Ps3 ----> No more errors, period. This can definitely help with some loading issues. The ps3 does not get fragged. And so you can't actually defrag it. Also how does a name resolver help with software managing its host connecting through a fixed ip, as tranquility has. There is no DNS involved. DNS is for name to ip resolution, something that connecting to psn and TQ do not need. So I can not see this having any effect. Any result you think you have had are simply conformation bias. Now for using the browsers, sure. But online games like dust. No.
You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Every IP address has a domain name.
TQ's host name is: srv200-g.ccp.cc TQ's IP address is: 87.237.38.200 Domain Name is: ccp.cc
Here is one of CCPs DNS servers: ns1.ccp.cc ( They have 3)
And if you wanted to talk to CCP about their DNS servers you could email them here: [email protected]
Now as far as the PSN defrag goes, you are right there is no defrag per se. But you can rebuild the file system of your PS. Which has been proven to help resolve many of the issues that players have had in Dust. For those not familiar with how to do this, follow these instructions. |
