The CoF feels to loose, you can not out DPS an AR at range, and you can barely out DPS an SMG in CQC. Yes, numerically the HMG potential is higher but applied DPS and potential DPS are two different things. Using an AR main hand and SMG off hand is better at the roll then the Assault HMG. Making the large hit box and slow strafe/mobility for the Heavy a liability when compared to the medium frame, in engagements of greater then 20m.
My suggestion is to tighten the cone of fire to mitigate lost rounds allowing the weapon to compete with the games other lower fire rate higher damage mid-range weapons.
On a related note to Wolfman, should he or his cohorts actually read this. If you gave us an HMG (For the sake of conversation let us refer to this as a "Percision HMG") variant that fired at 1000-1200RPM, tight spread and very little climb with continuous fire, slightly higher then SMG damage per round, with an AR's range. Some where between 600 and 650DPS for proto, making it the lowest DPS potential HMG with an extra ordinarily high applied DPS. I think this would become a popular addition for Heavies Pushing or Defending exterior's. You could further balance it by reducing its Feed Chain to 225 rounds, and reducing the reload speed by 2.5 seconds base.
The fact that it encroaches on the Assault HMG's roll is not beyond me, however where the "Precision HMG" has an advantage, is that it can be easily adapted in most any environment to great success, just like the AR |

A new HMG variant "Precision HMG" proposed by Volgair, would be a tool that I believe most of us would use. It would give us the ability to actualy kill at the max ranges of our weapons, like every other weapon, as opposed to only notifying the enemy of our presence.
Another noticable problem with the CoF, is that it seems that you have to have the center aiming dot on atarget for any of the rounds to register as a hit.
For instance, if i have a target inside my cone, but the center dot is not precisely on target than the rounds firing in the cone do not register, but if the center dot is on target than the spread does register. This is aproblem i believe the shotgun suffers from as well.
The problem this causes is that a HMG user needs to have the precision tracking of a sniper (keeping the dot on target) for any of our rounds to hit. This is a fundamental problem for a dispersion weapon. Is anyone else noticing this? |

Even on target at more then 20m its 590.3 DPS base feels like ~350... The weapon handles weird. Especially in times such as PC when the server starts chugging. I have had to switch to my SMG to deal with Shot Gun Scouts because of the way it handles. |
