Replying to a few threads does not count as communicating with the player base.
Replying to a thread does not count as addressing a present concern of the community.
Because threads are only seen by a few and are quickly buried by other threads.
When something important is said by a CCP staffer, it NEEDS to be sticky'd or posted in the announcements forum.
Otherwise the important information will not be read by 99% of the forum users and thus will not be known by 99.99% of Dust players.
Example- Wolfman posted the upcoming changes to the TAR. As a reply... to a thread... that keeps getting buried. How many people know about the upcoming nerf, beyond hearsay?
Us forum users do try to spread the word of what CCP is doing to make this game better... but we have to work so hard to get that information.
So please, which ever staffer manages to see this, please send a company wide memo. And don't forget! Communication is critical and you are doing it poorly.
I would suggest bringing is a guest speaker or having a in house workshop to help your fellow employees learn the mechanics of HOW TO communicate with your consumers.
I will be bumping this regularly until I either have some kind of acknowledgement from CCP or until I get discouraged and quit.
Or until it slips my mind, (like talking to use slips yours) |

I'd love to get some cleanup of the forums every once in a while, or better organization.
Basically have some moderators delete threads on a weekly basis that haven't been replied to for more than a week. Same thing with old information about dust.
If it's important, people will keep it bumped. If not, then it's deleted. This will keep the important stuff active and not buried. These moderators could also have a section to move the more heavily discussed topics to, and allow them to get more attention. No one can create threads in this area, but people can still post on those topics.
The same could apply to hot topics that devs reply to. Any important thread like this could be moved and allow for easier access. |

I always get the impression, that all the important announcements happens in IRC channel. And is up to who ever was there, to distributive that information in the forums. And that is WRONG CCP !!
Announcements about upcoming changes to the game, and major Updates, needs to be announced in the "Game Launcher", and via system E-mails in the game. |

I'd rather any time CCP replies to a thread with an important piece of information, they make a new sticky thread with that info, maybe with more detail. |

With as much is going on in house with CCP, I'd love at least 1 mail from them a day. I KNOW at least enough is happening to warrant an average of 1 mail a day.

Also, the blog posts seem so... impersonal. It's a blog, where you are supposed to speak from your heart, let it all out! I'd love to see dev blogs filled with more emotion, like their excitement about upcoming features or their frustration with hunting down bugs or combating the recent DDoS attack (which I'm sure causes a lot of stress and lack of sleep).
Guys (and gals) at CCP. You are human. So are we. We will be FAR more forgiving and understand of you if you communicate your human-ness to us.
I mean, look at CCP Soxfour and CCP Eterne. They post random stuff on the forums from time to time, and because of this are much loved by the whole community. So much so that we all are making a concerted effort to tease CCP Soxfour by getting his name changed. |

Here's the problem....
You want formal communication.
Formal communication takes time.
Time to write formal communication has to come from somewhere.
The information with which to write this formal communication has to come from someone.
It's quite simple, if they're posting formal communication all day and putting out the equivalent of a press release for every whine thread, very little will get done at an acceptable speed.
You'll likely counter saying, you don't need formal communication... however, every attempt that i've seen to be informal has resulted in more whining from the player base about inaccurate or incomplete data... you're the cause of your own condition.
The communication and dev agility for this game is far better then most. What other FPS do you know that is releasing almost weekly patches/tweaks/fixes? |

I AM going to say they don't need formal communication. Because twitter posts take seconds and can be done from your phone. Creating an app that will allow quick messages to the forums/ccp section of the in game mail system wouldn't take a significant amount of resources. You could (and should) have a system in place to make communication between different parts of the same system (and we definitely ARE a part of the same system as CCP) easy and effective. This is critical.
Also, the vocal minority should never be given power. Ever. Those who whined about CCP giving us incomplete and sometimes incorrect information represented a very minor and very stupid minority. If they feel alienated for the good of the whole, so be it.
Also, just because CCP does it better than most doesn't excuse the need to do what is needed. The fact that they patch and communicate better than most FPS (not mmos though) is counter balanced by the shear number of mistakes made in development. CCP can and should do better. |

CCP Wolfman wrote:Hi guys,
We have been looking in to the Mass Driver and we have identified two technical issues that are causing problems for it. Firstly we found that the way we check for splash damage is prone to GÇ£missingGÇ¥ partially occluded targets. We have now improved the system to solve this problem (literally yesterday). We will be testing it internally to make sure it causes no new issues and to see if it requires any rebalance on the weapon.
We have also found issues with the Mass Driver projectile and client/server de-sync. In poor network conditions the projectile can GÇ£miss the markGÇ¥ making the weapon feel unreliable. We are looking in to this issue as well.
We are considering increasing the splash radius but we are hesitant to make significant changes to the weapons balance whilst we are still encountering technical issues with its performance. WeGÇÖll keep you informed on how the new splash fix works out.
Cheers
CCP Wolfman
Please STFU. The world and this game does not revolve around the TAC. I am speaking to a larger issue here than individual weapon balance. I am not a petty child. I want the best for Dust, the game I've chosen to invest so much of my time into. If you can't or won't help, at least get out of the way. |

There's a post on May 9 from Heinrich where he talks about a major meeting between CPM and CCP re game going forward post-Uprising and that it'll be written up by CCP and then .... nothing ... space dust ....
Is a fortnightly post, even if its only 5-10 lines of "not much happened this fortnight" too much to ask? I'm not asking for an EVE-esque devblog (which rock) but we can't even get cliff notes.

You're welcome and you still don't get it. That quote from Wolfman was only posted to serve as a simple example. Many people are concerned with the state of the MD but how many people know that ANYTHING is being done with them? Pretty much only the people who follow that thread. Is it to much to ask for that CCP let the community at large know that it's working diligently on problems they may be concerned about? Or on content they might not even know they should be excited about? Have you not noticed how tight lipped and cryptic people at CCP are about upcoming features and changes being made to the game? Did you watch the fanfest videos?
Look, I don't want your antagonism, I want your support. But if you can't see my point, then I'll never get your support, so you might as well STFU and GFTO.

Right guys, any ideas for the guest speaker? No? We're going to ignore that obnoxious twit on the forums and continue making games? OK, agreed, moving on...
How are we doing with getting Morgan Freeman in for the workshop? Hey you! Nerf that tactical!

I just wrote a support ticket on exactly this.
Asking for more moderator support, move trash talk to a trash folder (locked but still readable), make good topics to stickys, move request ideas to request folder etc etc.
Good topics are always overruled by trash talk or topic number 300 about TAC or other things we already have ongoing discussions on. Clean up! |

I agree with the fact communication is shoddy at best, they put a lot of info out, but in random spots. For example.
Stated in a TAC thread.

CCP Wolfman wrote:Iron Wolf Saber wrote:Mass Drivers are suffering from a bug that is making them very difficult to use for long range, numbers wise it should be in theory a good weapon. It may take a code deployment to fix. My fellow wolf is correct, the mass drivers are suffering from a couple of technical issues. The first is a problem with how we check splash damage for partially occluded targets. The second is a client/server de-sync issue for the projectile which is exacerbated in poor network conditions. We have made fixes for both of those issues internally and have been testing them over the last few days. So far weGÇÖve been getting good results. I agree that communication is still a problem. I get the feeling that the team is still running as if they are in closed development and haven't released yet. The community team has tried a few things but rarely do they follow through or keep it consistent. I guess it's growing pains but they need to get their act together.
The team in Iceland does a good job. They are part of the same company. Can we please get the Shanghai team some help? |

Closest thing they have is the weekly updates thread that's stickied in the feedback section. It's where they say they would or could be working on, but many of the things are ignored at the end. I agree on having a thread where they just announce future nerfs/buffs, fixes and concepts that are coming OFFICIALLY, with ETA. |
