Thinking of Starter Fits as guides to what type of rolls you can specialize into, the current system does little to encourage diversity. Uprising took a good step into making your starter fits correspond to your race and give different starter mods accordingly, but more can be done.
For instance, why do all the "Assault - Frontline" starter fits use a Gallente Assault Rifle and Amarr Scrambler Pistol? Why not diversify it and make it correspond to race as well. So if you chose Amarr, your "Assault - Frontline" would include a Scrambler Rifle and Scrambler Pistol, if you chose Minmatar it would have the Combat Rifle and Flaylock Pistol, and so on. Now obviously not all the racial variants are yet available, but some are and you can do what you can now and as you finish developing the other weapons you can tweak the corresponding racial Starter Fits.
Ultimately I believe this would result in more diversity as players begin to spend their skill points. And no, I am not saying if you chose Amarr you should use a Scrambler Rifle or anything like that, but what would happen is there would be more of a diversity of weapons being used on the battlefield during Academy and people may realize they like their starter fit weapons or perhaps not like it and see someone else's starter fit weapons during combat and realize they like that better. Right now the only thing new players are exposed to is pretty much 32 Gallente Assault Rifles.
And I've heard other people suggest this as well, but why not have a Light and Heavy starter fit added as well. Do we really need four medium starter fits to help new players identify their role? |

I don't believe the current racial variants of weapons are that unbalanced. The AR and Scrambler rifle seem pretty equally powerful (not including the TAR). Likewise with Scrambler Pistol and Flaylock Pistol. And yes agreed all weapons need to have some militia version. |

Make it so we can build our own starter fits if we want to spend some aur. Really? You think everyone should have the Gallente assault rifle in their starter fits so Battle Academy is almost exclusively assault rifles so that when people start to specialize everyone is using Geks and Duvolles?
Yes I know there are other reasons why nearly everyone is using Geks and Duvolles but this is part of it as well, nothing wrong with encouraging a little diversity in weapon choices. |

but with some of the weapons that are yet to be introduced, we would have to wait a while, because we dont know what we are exactly getting handed untill it arives infront of us. lets wait to see if all races will get a Light/Heavy.Sidearm weapon respectively, since Minmatarr already has the weapons to fill each of those slots, yet there is only 1 Gallented Blaster Tech weapon on the field at the moment We already know that each weapon class will have it's own racial version. Like for rifles we have the Gallente Assault Rifle, Amarr Scrambler Rifle, Caldari Rail Rifle (not yet released), and the Minmatar Combat Rifle (not yet released). For pistols we have the Amarr Scrambler Pistol, Minmatar Flaylock Pistol, Gallente Ion Pistol (not yet released), and Caldari Rail Pistol (not yet released). There's also racial versions of the SMG coming (Caldari Magsec SMG coming soon) and sniper rifles (Minmatar Precision Rifle on it's way). My suggestion is simply swap out the current weapons for the appropriate racial weapon as they are released.
Now if the question is that we don't know if these weapons will be balanced properly to be fair that some get them in their starter fits than that's another problem in itself. All of the racial variants should be different but equally powerful in their specific niche. |

Yes I know there are other reasons why nearly everyone is using Geks and Duvolles but this is part of it as well, nothing wrong with encouraging a little diversity in weapon choices. Gotta agree that's all Academy is and since I just passed through it I walked away with the 11/1 KDR.... for those players as soon as they get out of Assault training 101 and realise they have **** gear and no experience with other weapons they likely curl up into a ball and roll away from Dust. Perhaps if the uniqueness of the racial fits, as well as the starter fit diversity was pushed a little more we'd see a greater influx of players as well as weapon diversity in game. You see? My fellow Amarrians understand. Same for the Caldari and Minny guys above. In fact the only people to disagree at all are Gallente, seems they really like their Gallente AR being the center of attention
Jokes aside, I can see the argument that not all weapons should have a militia version. Like for instance Mass Drivers or Laser Rifles. But the Plasma Cannon on the other hand should, and in fact I believe that should replace the swarm launcher on the Gallente anti-armor. And before you say that wouldn't be fair for the Gallente, think about it. If more people end up using this stuff than those imbalances would become more and more obvious and get fixed sooner.

Well I understand that not all racial variants are available at the moment, but what is stopping them from implementing what is available (swapping out the assault rifle with the scrambler rifle in Amarr starter fits, swapping out swarm launcher with plasma cannon in Gallente anti-armor starter fit) then fixing the rest when the new weapons come? |
