first, id like to say that I love this game/concept and am excited to get it!
second, im hearing a lot of talk about the Templars, what are they, who are they, is there lore about them and why do they exist game-play wise? |

read the book Templar One for full back story.
basically, the Templars were the first immortal clone soldiers. they were created by the Amarr using found tech. |

Ain't gonna tell 'ya. 
Edit: ok, fine 
We are part of a community event in wich 200 players selected by CCP and another 100 PS VIPs are given a character named "Templar Renegadexxx" with 2m SP and some BPOs from the 10th anniversary pack. Our job is to play 20 matches and gain 20k WP to get some goodies afterwards (100run bpc of some stuff i believe).
Your job is to kill three (or five) Templars during the duration of this event to get 2,5m ISK.
The event was planned to be over by now but server issues on friday had it delayed by 24h and the downtime yesterday will probably add another day. |

Lore wise they are like special operatives for the Amarrian Emperor Family who are initiated in the Amarri faith and are what you could call the fist of the Empress' armies.
They tend to be employed in situations where fanatical devotion and extreme loyalty is required, also when the Empress needs operators she can trust not to talk.
In this case these first generation Immortal Clone Templars are renegades who for some reason or another betrayed their Empress and attempted to escape.
So Empress Jamyll has set a bounty of these Traitors so that we mercenaries will hunt them down and destroy them.
(In reality these Templars are a randomly selected group of players from across the community, though it seems some corps got luckier than others, our alliance had 3 Templars while some corps had upwards of 6 or 10, however because its a random cross sections of players who applied to become Templars we got the good, the whingers, and the trolls the latter of which have just been suiciding back in the red line and ruining the event, while the whingers have been moaning on the forums about not being competitive enough) |

The reason the templars irrc is
*SPOILERS IF YOU PLAN TO READ THE BOOK BELOW*
The Amarr were harvesting the implants from sleepers (because they couldn't reverse engineer them)
Because of this, the first templars were seeing visions of the beings that had the implants before them. Also, they dropped a orbital strike on planet they sent out to take care over from the minmatar (sorry, don't remember what its called)
So yeah, they quit after that. Also, I think templar one spoke to the other templars and told them to quit too. |
