The review on mkgaming is fair enough, but the other one is trash and seems to be a thinly veiled plagiarism of the lackluster IGN reviewGÇöregurgitating all of the key points mentioned in the IGN review and missing out on all the omissions it also made. That makes it questionable if the gamenguide reviewer played the game more than three hours, or even played the game at all. |

Funny how only terrible sites or idiot reviewers or people who didn't even bother actually playing the game are the ones reviewing Dust, isn't it? And yet they're all pretty much pointing to the same issues (which have also been brought up here time and time again). Amazing coincidence really! |

Serious question, not meaning to flame or goad into a fight:
Is there a reason why anyone should care what others think about when it comes to a form of entertainment they enjoy? I have seen glowing reviews for movies/games/television shows that I think were terrible, and I have seen the reverse. It is odd that people don't like X when I really do but the amount of posts that either amount to "This site said this!" or "This site is wrong!" is kind of staggering. Why be concerned with what other people think it regards to a game you play for leisure?

While those reviews are from no name companies they are not far from the truth. Right now the only appealing reason to play this game is the integration with EVE online and the potential that it brings. Dust has a brutal learning curve, massive grind, and no real incentive to play this game unless you're in a corporation. Unfortunately CCP is catering to the EVE online community and the FPS aspect has faltered because of it.
Look at the FPS community, games like Halo, Battlefield, and CoD sell millions of copies on their release day in the US alone. This game play needs to more competitive rather than solely equipment based. Player skill should matter more than player equipment. A more skilled player should always beat an inferior player regardless of if they have standard gear or prototype gear. If two players of equal skill are in a 1v1 engagement then and only then should the player with better equipment win.
This game needs better and more responsive controls, better hit detection, and faster lateral strafing speeds. CCP needs to make their job easier and remove the PS move and KBM, if they focus on one controller scheme it would be a lot easier to refine and it puts everyone on the same playing field. |

A review saying Dust is all wrong, or all good is a bad review. Probably done in less than 4h testing it, or because you're just not objective at all. I've seen some fair ones though that points out perfectly what is wrong and what is good with dust.
Let's face it. There's a lot of progress to be done on dust on the FPS side. Dynamics, rythm, balance, technical polish on aiming, movement etc. Dust is average at the moment FPS wise. But it has so much to offer one can still find it's the most amazing FPS to play. |

It's a little of both. I don't think anyone, especially since Uprising, would hold this up as an example of good fps gameplay. However reviewers are routinely missing, or glossing over the facts, that this is free to play, that any p2w aspects are minimal (IGN UK's review nailed it), and most importantly; that it's an mmorpg.
I can't stress this MMO point enough. Nearly all the complaints levelled at Dust are things that every mmo faces. The current comparisons to Battlefield's, or COD's gameplay are false equivalencies. Is anyone expecting the upcoming Elder Scrolls MMO to feature better core gameplay than Skyrim? I don't think so. Yet I doubt that it will be penalised for that upon release. Why the double standard for Dust? Because Dust currently has no standard to be measured against in the first place. This isn't just new ground for devs, but for reviewers too. |

the reason for the debate is if a majority of reviewers give dust a bad review it will seriously limit the number of people that will actually try the game to see if THEY like it. with a limited playerbase dust could eventually fail and then those that like the game wont have a game to play.
so these threads are to be expected as what others think could dramatically impact the game |

All I can say is if the optimists stay (surely the fanboys will) then Dust will have a chance to be something special in the future.
CCP need more talent in the fold though, plugging away at all the major issues, surely they dont think they alone can solely bring this game around and most will wait 5-7 years for it to be awesome. |

Meh, as long as I enjoy, don't really care what other sites or people say or do.
Case in point, all the people going on about how much something sucks yet still persisting to keep at it means there's something to it, otherwise they wouldn't bother with all the bashing and just go do something better with their time.

I've always looked and I think CCP as well, as Dust being the core of integrating 2 platforms in real time interaction. THAT"S IT, ALL IT IS.
It's a concept and attempt at a single piece of new ideas first, game second. Nobody should really care about the game, as it wasn't CCP's main focus in the first place other than that very concept. We will prove this idea works for FUTURE GAMES to consider even if we are all running around in polygon VGA 2d graphics.
When the OB's rain upon request and EVE is actually well affected by DUST happenings PC or hwat have you, this idea will be considered a success regardless of DUSTs state itself. Then BAM, a new games takes the working idea, polishes a new game pairing, and we all move on to those games thanking CCP for pioneering an idea with a terrible package job we will all reminisce about.
The GAME is second thought. Not the focus IMO. If you only care about DUST, it seems you are not understanding of CCP's main objectives in the overall picture as they probably care less than you do. |
