I'm around 40,000 certs and Battle Rank 74 in PS2.
Obviously its a full scale MMO style FPS with no "matches" its just non-stop continental warfare so similar yet different to Dust.
Its VERY unforgiving for the newbie, the massive scale of the battles means there is zero fairness, you can be caught with 2 guys vs 30 tanks and 50 infantry and half a dozen planes. When people say HTFU in Dust they have no idea. You need to play much more conservatively than most FPSs.
Balance-wise there are still OP and UP gear but on the whole its pretty much OK, there's a bit too much missile spam in the current builds for my taste. Gunplay and movement is on par with most normal shooters, the graphics are actually pretty damn good considering you're often running 100vs100 man battles.
Its F2P but you can buy access to new weapons, its mildly pay to win, some of the advanced rocket launchers and power armour (MAX) gear are highly desirable. However, you can play the game just fine without ever paying a cent. The certification system is pretty similar to Dust/EVEs SP, mildly different but not better or worse.
Aircraft actually dogfight and do proper bombing runs. ground vehicles are very similar to Dust.
A really big fight over a single plant can take a couple of hours on some occasions, it can get pretty epic, some of the battles really look like that stuff you see on TV at night over Baghdad.
Obviously there are 3 in built factions in the game which you choose on char select. There are some population balance problems where one faction is heavily outnumbered but nothing super crippling.
All in all, pretty decent game, the forums would have you think the sky is falling but for the most part there are only a small number of problems.
Oh yeah, they have a server in Sydney so I get to play with 15ms pings instead of 200-300ms like most games hosted in the US/Eurozone. |

Oh, and SOE DEPLOYED THEIR CONSOLE COMMANDS in the game files. Those people you see flying around in the air, embedded in walls, and shooting people while invisible aren't actually hacking.
They've just enabled the console commands that released with the public client.
Admittedly hacking was a MASSIVE problem for the first few months but its been cleaned up in a major way. I used to see half a dozen blatant hackers a day at the start, now, lucky to see one per month |
