Sigh, idiot. In case you didn't notice, COD weapons have unlimited range, so I don't see why would they be happy about it. -_-
The reason it was removed is because it was a MUST HAVE skill, like weaponry, or the learning skills in EVE. Without it, you weren't half as effective as your other team mates, and it made the disparity between new and veteran players huge. |

No doubt the real reason was that they needed to reduce the distance at which characters get rendered to cope with the graphics "upgrade" in Uprising -- can't do that unless the range of weapons is also lowered. The rendering distance was actually increased. |

The rendering distance was actually increased. rendering distance? as in how far you can see things? just making sure im on the same page, cause i thought they reduced how far you could see other suits? i notice a LOT fewer snipers, even when i know where they should be at roughly, and its not a matter of just peeking out from behind heavy cover and yeah, as much as i think it was a good call removing the max range-sharpshooter buff, did they simply remove the skill? or add max range to some/all weapons(akin to what they did with the removed weaponry skill damage bonus)? i ask this cause i know they were attempting to redefine some weapon roles to make way for new weapons, question is though, how long before they ever get here? i havent invested any 'serious' SP into weaponry beyond a few assorted lvl1s to try out the new ones, are there any weapons that can actually make the cover-to-cover ranges we used to be able to do? like shooting across the 'tabletop' on the center of the 4obj map thats been around for ages, used to be DANGEROUS getting shot by people across the way, now its considerably less bad till someone gets brave and starts coming at you, but youre also hard pressed to actually get a kill without running into the cross fire of half a dozen dudes camped on the opposite side... They just removed the skill. They are working on the range balance. |

That's the excuse they gave us all right, the one I don't believe in ;). Kitten Empress wrote:The rendering distance was actually increased. Not the distance you see enemy suits at, that has been lowered quite a lot. And why don't you believe it? They didn't just pull it out of their ass, the community has been saying it for a while, and it is very logical. Also, I didn't see a single red dot blimp without the body showing up, even at insane distances where the enemy was like 4 pixels and I was using a sniper rifle. |

Kitten Empress wrote:They didn't just pull it out of their ass, the community has been saying it for a while, and it is very logical. The community says all kinds of things ;). Some of the issues that were attributed to sharpshooter were real, but I'd hesitate to argue they were caused by that skill or that removal was the right thing to do. Also some of the reasons given don't really make sense so I wouldn't call it logical ;). Kitten Empress wrote:Also, I didn't see a single red dot blimp without the body showing up, even at insane distances where the enemy was like 4 pixels and I was using a sniper rifle. I seem to recall a post from someone at CCP stating that the render-enemies-range varied depending on weapon. I've actually seen enemy models appear/disappear when outside my range (AR) while not being so far away as to be irrelevant. Maybe. However I never saw an enemy disappear so its not really an issue. |
