They should have. They have the MMO aspect of this game down but the FPS aspect needs a lot of work. They should hire developers who have experience in FPS games. If this game had the current MMO experience and the gameplay was truly a cross between MAG and Halo as the developers intended there would be at least 100 times the amount of people currently playing. I consider this game to be in open beta because of the vast amount of the game that we still don't have. I hope that in the near future probably on PS4 that we have smooth lag free gameplay with beatutiful graphics, tight and responsive controls that allow for actual competitive skill based gameplay.
400-600k players? perhaps i dont know the FPS player base as well as i should, but do call of duty and other games of the genre pull that many people? and thats being lax only counting the numbers i see on the login screen of 'currently online'
your estimation seems a bit high to me though...
and personally, i could give 2 ***** less about the GFX if they could fix the game play... broken needles, the terrain issues, make the EVE-DUST connection and have it be meaningful maybe?
and speaking of the EVE-DUST connection... i shudder at the thought of the meta level bastardization that is the DUST meta level being involved in EVE based industry... the ONLY accurate piece of meta level that i saw was that the officer weapons were meta 10... standard suits are meta 1(should be 0 if its to be base line), militia are meta 1(shouldnt even be a meta group either), proto suits are 7(storyline loot), proto rifles are 8 and 9(faction). there is no way that i can imagine the current meta levels being introduced in a coherent and meaningful fashion to EVE industry... being t1(meta 0) > invention > t2(meta 5) and all meta 1-4 and 6-14 being 'found loot' from drops/mission rewards with no existing BPOs... |

i figured as much that you meant getting the game play down, i was just stating that id rather they fix gameplay b4 they do any more facelifts like uprising... in a game thats intended to eventually be player driven, they need to get the market to a state of being by players for players, and mentioned in what i caught of the fanfest feeds that they were just going to farm it out to the EVE side indi guys to take care of rather than giving us the SP sinks of industry skills... which spurred on my rant about the rediculous rant about the connection.
and as i mentioned, im not familiar with the FPS player base, but being a new title, and not a standing franchise like call of duty or medal of honor or even halo, 600k concurrent players seems a bit excessive of a goal or expectation to me. and given the nature of New Eden, that life here isnt easy, i honestly expect a lot of the regular FPS player base to have a hard time adjusting... some might enjoy the challenge and thrive in the environment, while many others will just say f' this noise... i make this assumption based on my experiences in EVE Online, where many players never make it past their free trial periods... |

CCP shouldn't have "released" the game until it was a more of a finished product. Then atleast they could have properly advertised the game and the reviews wouldn't be as brutal as they are. I'm not hating on this game I honestly hope that it reaches the potential I envisioned when I first learned about this game almost 4 years ago.
i admit to being something of a fanboy, but i also expect CCP to be held accountable for their end of the bargain... which to date, they have done a relatively poor job of in terms of grand schemes vs what theyve got out... the problem isnt how great this game will be in 5-10 years, the problem is that the games broke right now, and was hardly ready for commercial launch with such major gaps between what they envision for the game and what theyve actually got so far...
i am concerned that this game might go the way of captains quarters... some great grand scheme they had of getting us interacting as pilots instead of just ships in space, playing dress up in our quarters with a $60 monocole... |
