I'm opposed to it for largely the same reason that I oppose most of the standard achievements/trophies for online play: it encourages behaviour other than helping the team win. People fuss over KDR no matter what, but adding bonuses for killstreaks would exacerbate the issue by making them base decisions on KDR rather than achieving a win for the team. Just to offer a really extreme example, take the classic award for accuracy; shoot an easy target once and AFK the rest of the match, you have 100% accuracy and you get the unlock. Kill streak trophies and kills-with-X-in-one-match result in the same kind of detrimental behavior (in that case using non-optimal weapons or weapons you suck with, just to try for the bonus).
By all means, add bonuses for helping the team more, but killstreak bonuses in any mode other than ambush would be detrimental to what really matters: winning. |

Killstreak wouldnt affect team decisions at all IF: there was double WP's for the Win Trust me, it would. Extra points for streaks are a guarantee based on your own performance, while bonuses for winning are far more nebulous, as it depends on others. If the choice is to nurse your KDR or gamble for a win, the KDR will usually win out with these people. The ones that it doesn't affect are the ones that are more interested in the win as a matter of principle (like me) than for the bonus for winning. |

The objective of most DUST games is to seize and control terrain. Who really cares about k/d ratios and kill streaks. Games have adapted to giving people trophies for individual achievements rather than rewarding gamers for team work based achievements. Most games that reward head hunting behavior are stadium / closed map style playing. COD, unreal tournament, quake. But when a game is created to encourage team play and fire and maneuver, who really cares who gets the kill anyways? Precisely. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the "m-m-m-m-monster kill" from my sniper sprees in UT99, I love the ridiculous points in BF2142 that got me banned for "cheating" a couple times because the other team sucked and kept running into the killzone (at one point i got seven straight kills without moving my mouse because the idiots kept spawning and then going to the same ladder). These things aren't welcome in Dust, because they discourage the real goal. Even in BF2142 they discouraged it to an extent, but it was worth more points to do it that way and at least managed to be useful on those small maps; NOT HERE. |

Talos Alomar wrote:The game could display the killstreak but not actually award any extra points. IDGAF either way, but some people like having a pat on the back when they do something cool. Displaying is fine (andit already does for your own stats), but actual rewards can have negative impact, as has been noted. |
