Mentally prepare yourself for that sort of threat.

Or you could just gently tap them with your weapon. They're made of paper.

In my experience, they kill me before my melee animation activates, that or it completely misses thanks to how melee damage is applied, usually i spray bullets in a hopeful attempt that it'll either A. Make them go away, B. Kill them with a few hip fired shots that actually land.
