This is a really broad question. Specifically, what do you want to know? |

1) Does it work the same as typical orbs? 2) How do I get the FW pilot to fire? 3) How is the strike placed? Do I need to lase the target? Is there a delay between me marking the target and the pilot blasting the **** out of it?
The rest of the questions I have are probably best left for the Eve forums. |

You would call it in like a Precision strike, and then it's up to the EVE pilot from there. If he's slow there'll be a delay. If he ignores the request, then you get nothing (but don't spend the WP either, meaning you can try again right away). Also, the type of bombardment is dependent on what ammo he has, too.
All you do is pick the location. Everything else is up to the pilot. |

To this day I still don't know how EVE helps me except for when a big ship gets killed in EVE and falls into Dust and I get so memorized by it I get sniped in the distance :) |

Faction Warfare Orbital bombardments can only be performed by EVE players in faction warfare. Planetary Conquest OBs can only be performed by EVE players from the same alliance.
EVE pilots have to "connect" to the planet by being within a certain distance of the district beacon in space, and then clicking on the planet. So long as they stay within distance and remain connected, the EVE pilot will receive a targeting pop up when you call for an Orbital bombardment. The EVE pilot has to click on the target then fire the guns. The guns have to have a specific type of ammo loaded.
Other than pre-arranged voice comms, the only way to know if a pilot is in position to deliver a strike is to obtain 2500 WP and then open up the off planet assets. If a pilot is connected to the planet, you will see an option for Orbital bombardment. Otherwise, there will only be a precision strike available.
Things to note: --Precision strikes are smaller and deal less damage than Orbital bombardments (if certain conditions are met, see next) --Any ship with turrets(hybrid, projectile, and laser) and the right ammo can launch an orbital bombardment. However, Orbital bombardment damage is calculated based solely on the number of guns, not on the size of the guns. Currently 8 guns is the most any ship can have. An Orbital carried out by a ship with less than 8 guns will do less-than-optimal damage. --Hybrid turrets deal Armor and shield damage over a large area --Laser turrets deal armor and shield damage over a small area, but with increased damage. --Projectile turrets only deal shield damage over an average sized area --The type of OB delivered depends on the EVE pilot supplying the strike --WP are only subtracted when the OB is delievered --Depending on the DUST-EVE connection, there will be 2 - 7 seconds of lag between when the OB is called and when it is delivered, even if the EVE pilot is quick to deliver.

you must be in the militia to drop orbitals on the fights, and orbitals don't change the battle much. too much delay. not frequent enough. pretty useless until they change it. |
