I much prefer mouse and keyboard for this game as I'm an old codger and having "grown up" bunny-hopping my way to victory in Counter-Strike, I just never made the switch to console FPS gaming. My issue here in Dust (aside from seemingly floaty controls in general) is trying to play a support player as a mouse and keyboard player. Perhaps its just my mouse, and if so, I'd love to hear from those not experiencing problems, and hear what mouse your using, but I never seem to be able to select the equipment item I want quickly enough. It's like a mini-game to hit the middle mouse button and then select the correct item and its kind of killing the game for me.
I want to be of help on the battlefield, but the past few fights people have just bled out before I could get to them and switch to the medkit. Similarly, I've been killed more than a few times fiddling around in a hotspot to drop a nano but unable to do it efficiently. Perhaps I just need some real world dexterity training, but the current setup seems very finicky and definitely plays against support players.
Are there any work-arounds? I understand the developers don't seem interested in allowing for re-maps but anything people have found that works would help.

It's not just you, the mouse controls for this game are horrible and getting worse with each patch it seems.
I actually prefer using a kb/m for steadier aiming but have had to switch back to the ds3 just to use items without wasting time selecting the wrong one over and over.
If they're going to have kb/m support it would be nice if they would let you hotkey equipment to the number keys at least and avoid that horrible radial. |

I actually made a feature request , in the appropriate forums, for this exact thing. It got buried under a sea of QQ Tac AR posts though =(
To the OP, I agree that it can be difficult to swap to something that isn't main hand or off hand. As for hardware, I use my Logitech G11 keyboard and Logitech MX Revolution mouse. Nothing too fancy on the PS3, since you can't take advantage of any of the programmable keys, but it's easy enough to move them between my desktop and my PS3. Plus, using the USB port on on the keyboard, for the mouse, frees up a USB port on the PS3. |

I'm going to play with my keyboard settings and see if I can assign mouse movements to macro keys. I'm playing logi now and it's ridiculous to spend 15 or more seconds trying to drop a nanohive. |

I added that thread to my subscribed, and will continue to point people to it. It should be a little tweak for the Dev's and will make a huge difference. |

In my experience getting the correct equiptment selected requires a very slow continuous move of the mouse in the correct direction untill you release the middle mouse button. On mouse side i use an mx518, and this is the only way i can reliably equip the correct gadget.
As an image of this, think of your mouse as if you were doing a turn with a gamepad, slow and continuous. |

I already made this request here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=887441#post887441
Please post there to bump it up. |
