My roommate just picked up playing dust, as some of our other friends have been playing for a little while now.
We tried to actually squad up today, but we found that whenever we activated voice chat in the same channel, we could not hear each other, or anyone else in the channel. There were also serious issues in getting the game to even activate voice chat, as well as general connection issues that may or may not be just a coincidence.
We can both speak to people in seperate channels just fine, only when we are speaking in the same channel does the problem occur (ie, he can talk in his corp chat while i talk in my corp chat, but if we both activate voice when together in squad chat, things get kittened). I have already gone through my router settings and forwarded the necessary ports, as described in one of the stickied topics, but got no results.
If anyone else has had this problem, or knows how to remedy it, help would be greatly appreciated.
Donno if it matters, but we use a D-link DIR-615 router, and both PS3's are connected with ethernet cables. |

It sounds like it could be a NAT/forwarding issue where the 2 of you are trying to use the same port for the same thing (I haven't needed to look at the port forwarding post but I suspect that was written from a single PS3 behind router scenario).
What's odd is, if that's the case, I'd have expected to see if happening all the time or completely randomly rather than predictably.
I've got 2 PS3s behind my firewall but I must confess I haven't tried putting both of them in voice on the same channel yet. If I get chance over the weekend I'll try it and see if I get the same problem but my network architecture is totally different as I'm behind a software firewall so the results might not be helpful. |

It's a strange problem, for sure. We can PLAY together with no connection issues, but its just the voice that's a problem. It's as if both PS3's are trying to use the same port for voice communication and the router doesn't like i. I've tried all the suggestions I can find, including having one PS3 port-forwarded and one using the DMZ function, I've given both static IP addresses, dynamic IP addresses, enabled and disabled UPnP, and no combination has resulted in a fix.
Would REALLY like to hear from a tech-support GM about this. |

the only thing i can think of is using a program called wireshark to see if your network trafic is running all over each other
one immediate thing you can do is set up quality of service for voice chat when a voice message travels across the network its spit up into packets that try to get thier as fast as possible and don't care if they make it or not,
seting up quality of service for voice as the highest p[priority itll be listed as (UDP) traffic and setting up the rest of the dust cilent sever communications as the next step below that 2nd highest should help as long as its on your end
downloads are listed as (TCP) traffic and and are resent if they get dropped so that traffic can be lowered if it needs to |

the other thing is to make sure you have the latest firmware for your router witch is found on the manufactures website you seem to be familiar with accessing the router settings by typing n its ip and entering a password
so under one of those tabs you will find the option to flash the firmware from a file i recommend plugging from the internet
IT IS OF THE UP MOST IMPORTANCE THAT YOU DO NOT LOOS POWER TO THE ROUTER OR THE MACHINE UPLOADING THE FILE AND THAT YOU DO NOT LOSE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO THIS IS HAS A RISK OF BRICKING YORU ROUTER SHOULD YOU LOSE POWER OR YOUR LINE TO THE ROUTER I RECOMMEND HAVING A TECHNICAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL DO THIS FOR YOU IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE AS CROWD CONTROL PRODUCTIONS TM, YOUR ROUTER MANUFACTURER, AND I CANNOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE AND OR BRICKING
well that's the legal dont bean to scare you but flashing the router really does help sometimes and one the reason manufactures sometimes list for coming out with firm out with firmware updates is better performance fixing VoIP issues and improving QoS.
i also recommend you read the manual that came with your router including any quick start guide a spare can problly be found on the web if you don't have it and reading up on the information on how to do this safely
a couple of good websites for detailed instructions with picture guides are tom,s hardware and tech republic

Hmm, the QoS might be worth looking into. I've actually never played with that setting on the router before.
I've been using d-link routers for years so I'm pretty comfortable tinkering with settings, though I'll admit my knowledge of networking in general is lackluster.
I'll check out if there's a firmware update as well. I haven't done that in ages. If that alone fixes the problem, I'll be beyond happy.
Otherwise, one of the biggest things I can't understand is why UPnP isn't preventing this problem in the first place. Isn't it supposed to keep the two machines in line when it comes to crossing network traffic? |

I played with two roommates and they were on the same router but we never had voice problems. Although they only used push to talk. It was less than perfect because occasionally they would chatter between themselves and surprise me (oh! we are in a drop ship above you. Want to join us?) regarding what was going on. |

So after a lot of effort, we finally found the issue, and it's not a network one. Problem is, fixing it seems more unlikely now than ever. |
