So I have a few questions that have to do with skills and being a pilot vs just ground or whatever.
1. How many skills can you have is there a limit to is or could you max out every single skill in the game( which I'm sure would take forever but could you do it) the reason I ask is because I see a lot of posts about pilots and people say to have a fun ground guy. Also I'm thinking I want to be able to switch between assult and sniper I like using them both in a game because you can recon out with the assult and find a good sniper spot and if you die you can always change and go to that spot. I just want to know how the skills will play into that though.
2. Is being a pilot very hard and what would I have to do if I wanted to try it out? Also with flying do you have any control over your weapons and firing at people on the ground or is it just you fly around and need people to shoot a things for you?
3. With the skills what is the best way to go with a sniper and assult build if you have a suggestion I'm all ears.
4. The skills that you buy and upgrade can you get rid of them and get the points back to use on something else how does that work? For example if I put points into heavy dropsuit and then go you know I don't like doing that I want to be faster or what ever and want to take those points out to put into a light dropsuit can that happen? |

1) No there is no limit but as you pointed out it will take years to max them out. You don't want to mix roles (assault and sniper) with limited skillpoints. Specialize and get good at one role. Make an alt if you want to dabble in a 2nd role.
2) Takes some getting used to but not hard. I think the pilot has control of a weapon but I'm not sure. I don't fly them much.
3) Many people are using logi suits for both snipers and assault these days because of the ability to load up goodies and have a good tank. I would not recommend specializing in two weapons with limited skillpoints. Pick one and go deep. Only throw enough points into other weapons to get the standard variants.
4) No. Once you invest in skills they are yours forever. Choose wisely. |

Ok so just stick with one I got that which is fine I've only invested points into the assault side since I most use it more, but if I wanted to do something with being a pilot or driving a tank etc.. Would that be a good Idea to do with my assault guy or just stick with the assault because piloting and doing all of that will take points I could use on my other skills |

Any skillpoints you divert from your assault role into other things which increase the time it takes to get your assault role maxed out. That's fine if you can live with taking a week or two off from skilling for assault although I think it is still better to experiment on an alt so you don't have to live with mistakes on your main. |

Yes you could/can fully upgrade all skill trees. However, it will take a long time.
Seeing that your new to the game, personally I suggest allocating mostly to Assault Rifles and Medium Dropsuits. As these two items are the most diverse within the game and be fitted for the average FPS or new player.

You can get some Dropships with mounted weapons for the pilots, but these are expensive is both ISK and Skill Points. The main firepower is from the weapons mounted within the bay doors, that are used by passengers. So I really suggest you have friends or a reliable Squad if you wish to become a pilot.

As I've said above, I'd suggest a decent Assault Kit and use that to earn Skill Points for a Sniper/Scout/Recon Kit. However do not go over Operation Level III, unless you really want to.

Although this isn't exactly for just a change of mind, more so compensate the changes to items being nerfed. You could use this, however this is for a limited time and closes very soon.
That being said, the next major update I'm sure they'll be a similar thing if they nerf some of the other items.
As for being able to reset your skills at your leisure this is currently not an option, although should be suggested. Even if it costs a somewhat heavy amount of ISK or even Aurum. |

Skill respecs encourage flavor of the month game play and would make Dust boring. It's already pretty dull with the shear number of TAC AR users running around. I hope CCP sticks to their HTFU roots and never allows us to respec again. |

I can see what you mean. But when Nerfing a weapons, example the Laser Rifles those who put SP into should have it Respec'd. Maybe never again offer full Respecs, but at least refund it for the against items.
I understand the whole hate for the 'flavor of the month' as I too hate seeing all the Tact. AR's. However how about lose poor new players that put it all into Assault Rifles for the Tact. AR as they feel it's good. Then suddenly CCP go ahead the nerf it, which hopefully is soon, that poor player is at a total loss. |

Given the amount of time one must invest into this game. I really don't care what people think about respec'ing.
You should be able to do it as you please. And kill the alt's.
Let it cost 1.5 ISK per SP or something.
As it stands right now. I could play for a month to 'fix' a bad initial SP expenditure. This is crap. The die hard people that have been playing this game of course want everything stacked in their favor - the ones sitting on millions of SP. But for the average person, this game is little more than frustration. And the OG's will say too bad so sad. Play for months and months and months to get what would take me roughly 10 hours of grinding in a COD game. Or MAYBE 25 hours in a KZ game. Thinking that people are going to tolerate this game mechanic AT ALL - let alone not be able to fix their stuff after they HAVE invested said time when all of a sudden the 'game changes' is simply a pile of crap.
Everyone should be on that page.
I've been playing for maybe a week or two and I would be far better suited to just let my character sit for 3-4 months rather than pulling my hair out to be viable in a mediocre game.
So say I had a few million SP to spend - OK. Spec out something viable so I could actually enjoy the game. And then that suddenly gets vaporized in an update?

Something like EVE's neural remapping: once per year. But that's not what this thread is about.
As others have said, pick a role you enjoy and put your points into that. If you want assault, then put your points into the related skills (assault rifles, medium suits) but you will probably want to put points in your core skills (for more power grid and CPU )so that you are ready when you get your SP high enough for more advanced gear.
You can think about secondary roles later. Also, if you are still interested in trying out other roles, you can always build a militia fit (or use the starter fits) to try out sniping or whatever. There isn't a basic dropship so you may have to find a friend/corpmate to let you fly theirs to see if it suits you. |

Being a pilot is a fun, but expensive role in the battlefield. I suggest fitting an infantry suit until you are comfortable with using it often. then you slowly build up your points in a vehicle. the dropship is a flying target for most infantry, and I can tell you first-hand that you need skill to stay in the air. the normal dropships do NOT have a pilot controlled turret, but the assault dropship variant provides you with one. but that takes weeks to spec out. I would try to fly the militia versions first and see if you can fly them as a role first |
