Call LAV, drive around. Run people over.
Theres nothing wrong with it. Infact its a viable real world tactic. In WW1 they used to bulldoze trenches. Better the enemy is dead, than you, by any means possible.
Problem
1. LAVs weapons are ineffective. The best weapon is the LAV itself. This promotes solo play. Its more effective as a weapon to spam 6 LAVs and have your squad drive them all solo, than mount up.
2. LAV spam is has only three counters to it. And those got alot harder recently:
a. Tanks.
b. Swarmbros & Forgebros. (AVbros)
c. AV grenades.
LAVs weapons are so unbelievably bad. Like really really bad. The weapons on an LAV are weaker than thier man portable equivilents. Rendering the LAV nothing more than a bulldozer.
So the question is, what the f***s wrong with weapon engineers in New Eden? You have this fast, armoured (or shielded) independantly powered weapon platform! So instead of sticking an effective anti vehicle/anti personnel weapon on it and draw the power from the powerplant, like a forge gun or a swarm launcher. You stick crappy basic reapeating blasters, that are weaker than assault rifles. Or some dumb fire rocket launcher that fires 'missiles' made of butter (mmm butter).
Vision
1. The best counters for LAVs should be another LAV.
2. Solo LAVs should lose to team driven LAVs. This is fair and promotes teamwork.
3. Skilled team driven LAVs should be a genuine threat to tanks. Not a hilarious A-Team emulator (firing bullets ineffectively around the bad guys feet then launch into the air, ditch the vehicle, then get out, looking confused).
I propose this:
1. Scrap the light missile turret and replace it with a "heavy" (upgraded from the man portable) Swarm launcher.
2. Scrap the light Rail Gun turret and replace it with a vehicle mounted Forge Gun. Moderate range that can actually be a threat to tanks and other LAVs.
3. Scrap the blaster turret and replace it with a heavy, close range shotgun (plasma flechette?) equivent. Some thing thats useful for punching through choke points and base gates but with little real range.
And when I say this, you could use the exact same code, mechanics, stats of the MP versions, not change a thing! and they would STILL be better than the weapons we have on them now. Okay maybe increase the range of the shotgun blaster a little.
This may seem overpowered. But its not. All thats happening is:
1. It is taking an existing weapon, that already exist in game for footsoldiers and WORK, and adding them to the LAV turret
2. Gives the existing weapons the advantage giveing of being able to redeploy in the battlespace at speed and engage in running fights with other LAVS while supporting ground troops with unlimited ammo.
3. At the disadvatage of the isk cost of the LAV, lack of ability to dodge, being a larger target, being sniper bait if stationary and being dependant on teamwork.
As CCP foxfour said, we don't have to copy everything Eve does. And at present the weapons of LAVs are attempting to imitate eve, and doing it poorly.
Have the LAVs fight it out with each other! LAVs should be running over enemy troops, but they should also be shooting them too and thats the proplem,I say it again, LAV weapons are f***ing s**t. Friendly LAVs should be defending thier brosefs as well as punking the enemy.
The LAV needs to be a viable weapon platform. Otherwise players will use the best method to get kills with them. Which, right now, is running redbros over.
Disclosure: Im a not a vehicle player. Im an AVbro. My interest is I want more fully loaded LAVS to shoot. And I find it hilariously unfair that the best course of action LAV drivers and riders have to try to kill me is to bail on thier LAV and shoot me on foot. Thats like Marines, after being fired at by a RPG wielding insurgant, chasing him to a house and thinking 'this hog mounted 50 cal is gash, lets go in and shoot him with our 9mm".
TL:DR
LAVs should be team vehicles. Not solo clonemowers. Don't nerf clonemowing just fix the weapons: aiming, function and power. |

My buddy uses LAVs every now and then and he uses a prototype blaster with damage mods and it absolutely destroys people I've even destroyed tanks as his gunner. He drives it to allow his gunner to get kills and I go 20-0 easily as his gunner.
LAVs can be extremely effective when given a good blaster and some damage mods and not just driven as a hit n' run mobile, also its best if the gunner is in a heavy suit with armor repairs to increase his survivability.
Ive heard this before on the forums. Ive still yet to see it in game.
Seems like it might be a rarity, in the sense that very skilled players can make anything work. In the way an militia skilled player can take out a weaker player in protogear.
In my own experience.
I can shoot blaster turret gunners out of thier seat before they can kill me.
Ive never seen a LAV railgun get another vehicle kill. Ive gunned with an advanced rail and trying to hit something is impossible.
The missile launcher fires so randomly (still) that you have to be dead (pun intended) still to hit anything.
Infact the only LAV kills I see with other LAVs is collisions, typically.
So yeah obviously functioning as intended |

That was a pretty unnessicerily mean, and trollish comment. Not only did you manage to insult me, but you basically said everyone who reads this forum is stupid. Good job. I apologize if I offended you, I would suggest you try not to take things on the forums too personally as that comment wasn't very hurtful or mean and wasn't meant that way. I just find that alot of the longer post don't get the attention they deserve in case your thread didn't get as much attention. I think LAVs suffer from lack of a proper map pool, but your theory that the weapons systems and such are broke is legitimate and you took the time to make your point.
I wasn't hurt. I think you should a wee bit of disrespect.
Nice to see you're actually rational and civilised.
I do think the weapon systems in the LAV are broken. To be honest I don't think broken is the word. More 'poorly concieved'. For the scenarios that present themselves specifically for LAV use.
If everything was fine, the distribution of LAV weapons kills typically (that I witness). Would correllerate to evenly with LAV use. Right now LAV kills seem dispraporionatly road kills. And thats fine. But Would be nice if people actually used the guns. And the fact they are not (barring that one reported super dude), suggests the weapons systems are ineffecitive.
