So right now we have Aurum items with reduced skill requirements, that targeted for people with low sp and people that don't have/want to spend ISK on modules. This items have equal stats with ISK variants which is fair enough, still if you pay real money you have advantage - less sp required. While this is good for starters, wheres AUR market for vets ? After playing for some time you'l eventualy max out skills for example Armor plates and theres no need to buy AUR items anymore, even if you are rich. So CCP's income will slow down a little.
What about Aur items with reduced PG/CPU requirements? Is it pay2win ? any plans on this? Because sometimes you miss like 2-3 PG and theres no options. Compared to EVE if you are after fitting ship, you always can choose from Standart items (T1, T2) and theres option for more advanced and more excepcive variants like Deadspace and Officer. While we dont have officer gear, except for weapons, the only option is Aur.
I might be wrong on this, but this is just a suggestion anyway.

I think once you have items that are only purchasable with real $$ and not earnable in-game, you start treading pretty close to 'Pay 2 Win'. Maybe if they were also salvage?
Once the player market opens up, we'll likely be able to buy AUR items (for a steep ISK cost), thus negating any P2W arguments. Until then, I'd hold off on changes like this... |

AUR items had reduced PG/CPU requirements during Mordus Private Trials (and possibly some time after that).
The logic behind it was actually sound: Reduce fitting cost to compensate for the lack of core skills that new players usually suffer from.
The reason why they where P2W and why they had to go is that reduced fitting costs allowed high SP proto bears to set up fits that weren't possible with ISK gear due to fitting cost, possibly breaking balance with combinations that weren't intended or were deliberately made impossible through PG/CPU costs.
So while they had a sound purpose for the intended player group, they couldn't be justified with a "no P2W" policy.
And i agree that there should be more variants that trade requirements for cost and/or efficiency. That's what skill level lvl II and IV should be for. |
