Every game I go like 2/15 with Nova Knives, I'm basically relegated to just a walking spawn point or scanner at this point. Nova Knives are fun to kill with but basically useless 90% of the time. For someone new to the game Nova knifes almost make me want to quit and I refuse to play anything else because I'm stubborn and I want to make it work. Plz buff |

Nova knives are fine. Unless you have a speed tanked winmitar suit you can't run someone head on with knives showing. You'll get dropped before you close the distance. That's not how the knives were intended to be used. You need to sneak like a ninja. Assassinate hackers or run circles around sentinels that can't track you fast enough. |

No such thing as stealth. I can't sneak up on any heavies and when I get close to someone I cant hit them because they disappear, and i have to do a 360 spin just to find where they are and then get killed by anything ranged. I die in 3 assault rifle hits, people walk just as fast backwards as I walk forwards, and anything that moves will 100% kill me(have never killed a moving target). And seeing as I find 1-2 people a game that aren't moving, they are pretty much crap |

plenty of people make good use out of the nova knives.
now that said they aren't a main weapon by any stretch of the imagination, but in close combat they can be deadly. |

Well I'm trying to main them and it is impossible. I read a post one time saying that a weapons advantages and disadvantages are support to be balanced, so Snipers have huge range and damage but get slow reload, low ammo, etc etc. Nova knifes have no range and good damage, while snipers have great range and great damage and are way safer and more useful. so dumb |

If this isn't a troll thread, The only thing UP about knives is the animation. If you like OHKs in CQC (and can survive the lag) check into shotguns as a primary. Militias are just fine if you don't want to burn extra SP. You can have your cake and cut it into pretty little bits too. If you're trolling, I am less than slightly amused. Try harder. |

Scouts require a very specific fitting and an indirect approach to combat through flanking and hit-and-run tactics. I have a Minmatar scout alt, that I've been building from the ground up and I can tell you it isn't as easy as people make it look. Keep practicing and test out different fittings until you find your niche. Basic guidelines I'll share with you from experience would be:
Minmatar = Speed and flanking. Build yourself for speed early. Regulators and catylizers are going to be your mainstay for low slots. Camping is very effective when solo or letting your squad run distraction. If you're particularly bold, you could try running through an entire squad too fast for them to lock onto you and let your squad overtake them from behind and backtrack to clean up.
Gallente = Stealth and camping. Use dampeners, precision enhancers, and passive scanners. This is a good fitting if you like to defend null points. Find a good hiding place and wait for someone to try and hack to run up on them. This is a more limited playstyle, but equally effective. You won't have the nova knife bonus, so make sure to follow up your strikes on tankier opponents. Active scanner could be helpful, but remember that it gives away your location as well. |

Guy in my Corp has gotten pretty good with knives as main weapon. Target guys who are alone, try to encircle them or get good at jumping and evading. Plus a sidearm is a must to finish guys off. Also you have to run pretty high lvl knives to have any OHKs. |

I main nova knifes...lvl. 5 minnie scout with ishukone blades. I never have a proble. Getting kills and going positive, I also know a few others who can do it as well. Anyone whos been in a match or squad with me knows its totally do-able to. Bring knives to a gun fight, you just need to have an entirely different mindset. |

According to my calculations, they are perfect and have been buffed completely during uprising. You are just not doing it right. Oh, and you're wrong about the stealth. It is possible to sneak up on mercs. |

I suggest skirmish since that is how planetary conquest is at the moment. Also, skirmish gives you more hiding spots and cover near the objectives particular with the central city.
Since you never played first person shooters, you got a long way to go. I'm typing from a smart phone at the moment so I will work on a detailed list of updated tactics later on. |

Ok, Ill play some more skirmish then. I just read 2 different tactics, which is to patrol the border of the map and to hack something then wait, so thats better then no tactics.
Right now I have Gallente light advanced on and adv knives. but I am going to be getting a skill refund tomorrow after downtime, and will go all in minnie scout, proto knives and upgrades to all the stuff i need besides that.
I also keep hearing about PC, but its not available to me through anything, is it corp related or something? |

yes, it is corp funded battles against other alliances and corps for control over planets in Molden Heath on the starmap. purchasing clone packs to go in and fight districts costs 80 mil ISK each and is bought by your higher ups in corp. |

Are nova knives viable as a sidearm? As in currently I use my sidearm to finish off an opponent if I run out of ammo on my main weapon. Currently I would switch to toxin and spray down the final hitpoints. Since nova knives are a hybrid weapon and my Gallente suit gets a cpu fitting bonus to hybrids I am considering witching to them but everything I have heard about the knives is about people who have dedicated an entire fit to them.
Are Nova knives effective as a finishing weapon? |

I would say to save your SP (if you dont have that much) and put some SP into Range Amplification and Lv1 Precision Enhancement than going all the way to proto knives.
I use the Adv ZN-28 - with your bonuses its already under 1 sec to charge. Stalk your prey trying to stay behind them or on the outskirts of their view and them hit em up from behind. Also when you use the Adv knives you have CPU/PG to spare for say a decent SMG or what I do - a standard AR - more range.
also remember that Knives are and advance technique. Its like in those assassin films when they say only the highest trained assassin can use a weapon like that because it involves getting up close. Also as others have said, Kinetic Catalysers are a must, to close distance and also to escape. |

Nova Knives are NOT (I repeat), NOT considered hybrid weapons according to the tranquility server. Despite the description (which is mainly for role playing folks) the Nova Knives are only seen as side arms to the server. |

Common Tactics for Nova Knifers:
NOTE: Keep in mind that these tactics are strictly for those who use the knives as a primary weapon. I don't even remember the last time I even used a gun therefore I never fit any gun onto my suit. This gives me an incentive to do well with the knives and plan carefully.
1. It is imperative that you map out every detail of the city-like structures like the back of your hand assuming you know your own hand. Not only does this make it extremely easy for you to surprise your opponents with flanking attacks but it also allows you plenty of ways to disorient anyone chasing you whenever you have to escape. This also gives you the advantage of understanding the fastest routes to any of the objectives within the city-like structures.
2. Camp any objectives within the cities. By camp I mean don't stand still in a corner for too long. Keep moving back and forth between the objectives using routes that give you plenty of cover but don't get too close to the objectives so that you won't get noticed if an enemy merc happens to come in to hack. As soon as they start hacking, you have about 6-10 seconds to get to them and slash them to bits before the virus starts uploading. Hackers usually tend to be alone so they are perfect targets for isolating. Although be weary of some hackers bringing company.
2. If you are forced into facing your opponent head on, it is highly recommended to sprint to their side like an orbit spiraling down to the center while using the strafe to keep your eyes on the target. You will have to time your instant attacks well because as you get close your target will be moving a lot in relation to you.
3. Keep your eyes on the damn mini map. You know, that thing on the top left corner of your screen. Keep looking at it like you have an OCD because chances are you might see a slight blip of a red target coming up and then fading. If that happens, chances are that someone on the opposing team is running alone. In that case, either go to where you saw the blip or keep an eye on the objective that is closest to the last-known blip.
4. CRUs and Objectives that you control have a built-in scanner that alerts you of any enemy movement within their range. Use this to your advantage.
5. Be like Riddick and use the darkness to pounce on your targets. The graphics have improved so much that a prototype Minmatar Scout can easily hide in these areas and use them for surprise attacks. They are also perfect for disorienting your target. Any nook and cranny you can find that is dark and has cover, utilize it.
6. Cramped corners and hallways are perfect for trapping your enemies. Especially if those areas are dark thus allowing you to cause massive chaos in their squad.
7. If you are with a squad, use them. If you are being chased, lead your enemy to your squad. If you need a distraction, they will provide it while you flank towards the enemy's rear and pick off the targets one by one.
8. If you think you've been spotted, go the other way and run. Not every isolated target you see needs to be stabbed.
9. If you spot a lone heavy, flank them and use charged attacks with the Ishukone Nova Knives. These proto-level knives will one-hit-kill most heavies once you skill them to the max. |
