One thing I'd like to add about scouts. In the last build when scouts had a fair bit more speed, I ran cardiac regulators. But in uprising the name of the game has changed. It's all about raw speed. Especially with knives. I would try and get my hands on enhanced kinetic catalyzes ASAHP. the quicker you can close the distance the quicker you can start stabbing away. (also doesn't hurt to run at 10+m/s when its time to get the hell out of dodge)
also, if you want to run knives, minmatar scout is a must. From what I understand, the damage listed on the knives is for an uncharged attack. A full charge deals 2x the listed damage. (also, don't forget the damage listed is per knife and you stab twice) so here's some numbers to make you drool a bit
Proto Knives: 200 dmg
so at a full charge, that's 800 damage. With L5 minmatar scout that becomes 250 damage per hit for a total of 1000 damage at full charge. Keep in mind that's with no proficiency or damage mods.
Just for fun, with 3 complex damage mods and L5 proficiency, it becomes 1331 at full charge (say goodbye heavies)
What it all boils down to is the nova knives in the right hands are EXTREMELY deadly in the right hands.......once you have the skills to back them up. As much as I loved my knife build i ended up speccing into Amarr assault for that scrambler rifle bonus but that was my choice. If you wish to go on knifing rampage just keep at it. You'll get there eventually.
just remember that you are going to be in a scout suit and that means that even all specced out with shield extenders and the works you are going to die from a mean look. That just means that you have to play smarter. If they see you coming, you're doing it wrong. It's allright if they see you coming at the last second, just remember to strafe as you sprint (hit A/D while moving forward) The best tactic I've found for my strafing so far (if they see you):
1) sprint strafe to the left or right
2) As you see them starting to correct their aim to hit you turn 90* the opposite way you were strafing crossing through their stream of fire (turn left if you were strafing right or vice versa)
3) run a few steps then turn back to face them and start strafing the other way.
4) rinse repeat until you get close enough to stick them.
many a TacAR has met their demise due to this
also switch it up now and then. while strafing right, fake left then keep going right, then cut a hard left when you're closer
Misc notes: with heavies, turn with them. you always want to be trying to get behind them. At 2000 RPM it takes less than 1 second of fire to kill you. Shotguns, only take a stab or two and try to get round a corner. or try to keep dodging. (these were my biggest nemesis as a knifer)
I hope this wall of text helps some and look forward to hearing of many success stories to come (typing this out kinda makes me wish i had stayed ninja knife. C'est la vie) |
