After all the patches and price drops I have decided to dedicate to dropship piloting and I need a good guide. I have 3 mil sp to spend and several mil isk and I am a bit unsure on how to properly fit my dropship and what dropships to use. I have a decent amount of skill at piloting already but would love some advice as well |

Skihids's Dropship Flight School post is gone for some reason. So you will just have to ask specific questions. |

My best advice is to fly the militia ships and save your SP for your suit.
You are going to need a day job to pay for your flying hobby so you will need every bit of that 3m SP for a suit, suit upgrades, and a weapon.
Then save your SP for flying. It will be 3-6 months minimum before flying will approach self sustaining levels of ISK and SP rewards so you will have the time.
If you sink everything you have into flying now you will be perpetually broke and forced to AFK farm for SP which will just put you off flying for a long time.
If you are dead set on vehicles, drive a LAV. Get a BPO Saga from one of the merc packs and skill into shield extenders and hardeners. You won't have the SP for the LLAV at first with just 3m SP. |

i don't think you're right on that skihids. no offense, but if you're a good enough dropship pilot you won't lose it, and dropship piloting costs so much sp, at least in my experience. on a side note, skihids, i've read your post, well some of it, it'd be nice if i could pick your brain on dropships, i believe i'm a good pilot, but i could always be better. |

You will lose dropships, that's a simple fact, and if you get involved in PC you will lose a lot of them. Dropships are very ISK expensive, more so than any other role in the game, you need some way of earning ISK and sp, because the rewards you get for flying are pitiful if you don't have an ADS and don't have a very good match. I would recommend using either miltia LAV's or spec into the standard variant,it will allow you to put your vehicle skills to good use and let you learn more about fitting and how modules work.
That said as skihids said, you should also put some sp towards a basic infantry role, which you can use as a method to generate ISK. |

i know where you're coming from, but the OP seems heckbent on piloting, well sort of. i'm simply pointing him in the best direction to fly dropships, given his current sp position. if he had more, i definitely would recommend the same thing, but he doesn't, and that is my main concern. but i could be wrong, and making myself look like an idiot. |

You will lose some ships no matter how good you are. Yes, you can fly around at top speed and keep your ship, but the more useful you try to be the more vulnerable you will be.
To replace them you will need a day job because flying is not ISK sustainable.
I love them, but they just aren't practical yet and won't be for another year. That's ok, I can wait, but I don't want others to make a mistake they will regret.
Feel free to message me in game if you want to talk dropships. |
