Introduction
When I first thought of Dust 514 before the closed beta was even in place, I was personally expecting much more of a 'vehicle vs vehicle' game, like EVE, rather than players firing upon each other.
Dust 514 would benefit much more from becoming a vehicle warfare game, with all kinds of tanks, gunships and planes fighting. This is what Dust should have been, as well as a soldier game. The following thread includes some of my suggestions to transform this game into a more complex 'vehicle warfare' MMOFPS.
Vehicle Categories
There should simply be three primary categories for all vehicles: Land Naval Air
Within these categories there would be yet more categories: Light Medium Heavy
From these categories we can derive a whole host of new vehicles.
Vehicles
This is a list of some vehicles which I would hope to be in this game: There would be racial variants of each of these, just different designs with different weapons and different armour / shield strengths. Generally it would go like this:
Amarr - slow, strong armour, long range / high damage lasers. Caldari - moderate speed, strong shields, long and medium range rail/coilguns. Gallente - moderate speed, strong armour, short range plasma blasters. Minmatar - fast speed, weak(er) armour/shields, short and medium range cannons.
Land:
Light:
Bike - a very fast moving transport vehicle with two seat slots, simply for really quick transport across map. Unarmed LAV - a fast moving transport vehicle, for quick and controlled infiltration of objectives, has no weapon. Armed LAV - slower moving, but has the ability to mount weapons, designed for aggressive infiltration while being able to defend itself.
Medium:
Armoured Transport - armoured transport vehicle with anti infantry weaponry, designed for breaching into enemy areas and depositing troops. Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) - designed for taking out infantry. Destroyer - anti-tank, designed to move very quickly and outmanoeuvre tanks.
Heavy:
Tank - what we already have in-game, high armoured with deadly weapons, but slow moving. Mobile Microcommand Centre - larger than tanks, very high armour and a large arsenal of attached weapons. Acts as a mobile spawn point. Artillery - devastating at long range, but low armour and slow movement.
Naval:
Light:
RHIB - (name to change possibly) a fast moving water vehicle, designed for quick transporation. Armoured RHIB - same as above but slower, and with a mounted weapon for covert ops.
Medium:
Amphibious Transport - similar to the land version but can travel across water, designed for assault operations. Frigate - a small ship designed for taking out other naval units. Destroyer - a small ship designed for taking out larger ships and bombarding the coast.
Heavy:
Cruiser - a very large ship which acts as a mobile spawn point, can hold many aircraft and other ships. Battleship - a large ship designed for coastal bombardment and taking out ships. Submarine - a large ship which carries missiles for both naval and land bombardment, can also act as recon/covert ops in some variants.
Air:
Light:
Fighter - small air vehicle designed for dogfights. Recon Helicopter - small helicopter designed for quick infantry transportation and utilising missiles. Bomber - small jet designed for bombing land targets.
Medium:
Transport Helicopter - designed for transportation while under heavy armour. Combat Helicopter - medium helicopter for acting as a small gunship for utilising a vast array of arms and dropping paratroopers. Large Bomber - larger plane designed for series bombing over a large area, very slow moving but deadly.
Heavy:
Gunship - acts as a mobile spawn point, transports units across the map very quickly while having a vast array of weaponry. Striker - large plane designed for sentencing massive ground attacks. Like a C-130 gunship.
If we can fill the slots for these vehicles, by having a racial variant for each, we could finally diversify the game and make it more enjoyable as a vehicle fighting game, rather than a boring infantry fight. |

I don't like the helicopters.. We're in the future, and we rely on non-fixed-wing propulsion to generate lift? I really like the dropship model, controlling it all with directed thrust. |

I also like this and can share some comments:
Being in the future, I think standard helicopters and airplanes would not be so enjoyable. As Halador suggested we should base the technology on directed trust and eventually the ability to fly very low, ideally like an hovercraft.
I suggest to add also:
SUBMARINE - able to lunch missiles on air targets also SUBMARINE TRANSPORTATION UNIT - able to travel under water and dock at the seashore to deploy units (might be available in two version, one to deploy infantry and one to deploy ground vehicles. Or one version able to do both)
In any case SUBMARINES should be able to also lunch torpedoes to fight under water.

First off, good suggestions, OP. Secondly, the dropships fulfill the role of helicopters. Thirdly, I have a suggestion for a naval vehicle. We could have a Sea Command Carrier, or SCC for short, that will function as the cruiser you mentioned and as the naval-version of an MCC. I also have a question: Are the RHIBs speedboats? |

i also like the idea. Although most people who play the game have some notion that this should be mostly infantry, but these guys came from call of duty for the most part and forget that this is a different time period when infantry is a bit less useful and rightfully so. Good Idea for water maps: the clones' armor is obviously very though and in the context of the future probably air (water) proof meaning a simulated atmosphere. So, the air provided to the clone is either recirculated, a process easily done in by capseleer's ships and requiring less energy than plants. Why might it be less? because the internal atmosphere is assumable pure oxygen, although not too breathable for us it is only logical that with the genetic modifications that they have done that this would be one, and also means the reoxygenators wouldn't need to process all sorts of other elements and compounds (nitrogen, helium, argon, and whatever else along with no need to filter out possible chemical warfare). this is why the clones suits are most likely to be water proof by nature. yes that whole paragraph was just saying they are probably water proof suits. ALL OF THIS JUST TO SAY.... When a clone goes into water they should simply walk under water (those suits aren't light or full of unneeded air). decreased speed of course (not very much 5%-20% ish) and maybe decreaces bullet damage and maybe some guns just don't work underwater. This would help ensure that there is no stupid swimming mechanic or instant death upon hitting the water (unrealistic). Consider how simple it would be to design the underwater terrain (rocks, sand, dirt and flat, easy) and the flow of the game as a B.A. clone walks out of the water, ambushing raspberries with an HMG. Like a Boss. If you are going to have maps with water a good water mechanic is essential and this should be a heck of a good one. VEHICLE IDEAS: also submersible aren't a bad idea eventually... lol maybe even submersibles capable of surface water travel and land travel all together, not unrealistic or useless even in 2013. also (futuristic) motor cycle things weighing enough to switch from land to underwater mostly unhindered. |

whats to say that a tank couldn't simply drive underwater or for that matter LAVs also (i guess normal models of LAVs don't have much traction). "oh no the 50 feet of water presure!" uhm probably not going to harm a tank that eats bullets for breakfast with a side of a grenade. I can assure you that a grenade produces much much higher pressures than 50 feet of water over head. |

i'm afraid if you expected this game to be super vehicle central.... you're not gonna be happy.
yes, there will be more vehicles, yes we will have more people per team eventually, but we are foot soldiers first and foremost. we are not primarily pilots, right out the gate, or tank drivers. those kinds of specialized roles will fill up as more people progress and play. but because we are foot soldiers, we will not see more than demo derbies with the militiashit LAVs most of the time, i;m rather happy with how everything is now, aside from the gun imbalance that we have to help CCP fix before the new toys come out |

Projectiles would still work decently enough, and missiles would be fine (we're assuming that they've been swapped out for torpedoes.
Energy weapons might have a bit of a range issue (water absorbing the heat faster than gases would) and plasma hybrid weapons might have the same problem.
It'd be cool as hell, but I think CCP has a lot on their plate right now, namely getting the game running smoothly in a temperate earth like climate. |

I think i heard there's a mechsuit coming out , but i'm not sure. It sounds like you want Battlefield vehicle diversity, but this is CCP, not DICE we are talking about, could be literally years before we see anything like these suggestions showing up. I like the ideas except for naval, CCP already has enough trouble with hills that have superglue coating them, can you imagine the problems with aquatic environments? lol....no ty |
