So I know this has been debated a lot, especially recently, about getting respecs, and how to handle them, if at all.
Now, in EVE, there are stats, that influence how fast you train certain skills. and upon starting your character, and once a year, you get a "Stat Remap", which allows you to change your base stats, in order to speed up your training by a good bit (sometimes saving a few MONTHS of training time!)
Now, I had a bit of an epiphany today. What if, instead of offering some insane full skill respec to every DUST merc, why not a once a year skill TREE respec?
So, once a year, you get the option to choose a skill tree, say, dropsuit command, or weaponry. And you can choose to drain all SP out of that one tree. This would allow people to try out different races, different suits, and different weapons/core skills, whatever.
Eventually, people won't need these respecs, as they will have so many skill points, they will already have everything. so thus these respecs will be superfluous.
Perhaps, if you made it a module that could be traded/sold... but maybe that is asking too much.
The alternative would be to limit each player to a max number of respecs per character. but either way you handle it, something should be done in the way of giving players a once-a-year skill related option, similar to EVE.
At first, I'd thought maybe it should be only one skill worth of respec, but then I though, well, what if you drain it all from a core skill, like the dropsuit command skill? shouldn't it then drain all the skills that have that as a prerequisite?
So why not just make it per-tree? The primary reason for this is in the coming years, we are going to have a lot of dropsuit changes, especially in the coming months (presumably). so why not relieve some of the strain by coding in something like this? |

Well, your logic is infallible, good sir. I would, however, enjoy a bit more elaboration as to why this shouldn't even be considered?
It's a console game, and it's losing popularity. I used to be hardcore into the "make it just like eve, bloody difficult" camp...
but now.. I dunno. It's kinda losing it's flavor. And once the blockbuster summer titles start rolling out, followed by the megatons in the fall (GTA V, COD, etc.), DUST is going to have a hard time retaining a core playerbase over 5 or 6k (at any given time).
I could be wrong, but we are a month into Uprising, and very little has been done to sate the masses of people who slowed/stopped playing due to terrible aiming, horrible hit detection, and broken TAR damage. in fact, CCP has even gone so far as to state the TAR damage is fine.
Also, ranges are still gimped as hell. People can throw baseballs farther than bullets go in DUST. Welcome to the future. |

Because unlike other games there is no "level cap" in dust, you can just skill forever and anything, so if you don't like what you skilled so far you just train something else. I know that new player make mistakes, but that is because people tell them "skill weapon x and suit y" because those are the flavor of the month. New player should be encouraged to train core skills (all those skills that apply to ALL suits, increasing armor, shields and cpu/powergrid) until they have a good idea of the game.
I agree that CCP ****** up everything with uprising and should hurry to fix stuff.
Still, ccp should offer a respec when racial variations of vehicles, suits and weapons are included in the game. We now have only gallente and caldari vehicles and only amarr heavies. Whe CCP willinclude amarr and minnie veichles and all racial heavies we should have the possibility to respec simply because we didn't have any choice.

I'm for a yearly respec option.
Or any sort of regular systemic respec option.
It's important to understand, that this will get obsolete over time for more experienced players. Newer players might want to consider changing up their roles. I see this as very friendly for newer players in particular. |
