(This has been suggested many times in last year, but all those threads seem to be locked. Feel free to link your old comments.)
BACKGROUND: Corp battle team size just got up to 16. Larger player counts are on the roadmap. Currently there are only everyone on Team Voice or squads being isolated. Current voice chat does not promote teamwork and won't give maximum game experience. Players want to level up fighting battles now.
[REQUEST:] Hierarchic voice chat for corp battles Improve Voice Chat hierarchy for corp battles.
Suggestions how to do it in short term: Let squad members be in squad amongst themselves and consider it as lower channel. Let Team Voice be higher level channel. Let Squad Leaders hear both lower and higher channels. (maybe all members) Give Squad leader an easy max 2-click way to change active speaking channel. DONE!
Suggestions how to do it in long term: - Create Team Boss Role in corp management, who can nominate Team Commanders for each fight - Create few default comm models which the TC can choose from in order to avoid customizing each player every battle.
Model1: - Team commander's default voice is on higher channel. - Team commander can push to talk to whole team. - Squad commanders default voice is on squad level - Squad commanders can push to talk on higher level - Squad commanders can choose if his squad hears the higher lever or not
Model2: Everyone on same channel, but TC has priority speaker, SQ leaders next.

Nice OP and all of this has already been suggested before. With the introduction of ranks the voice system should be looked at and improved upon. |

I fully agree on this. I posted this in another thread a while ago:
Quote:MAG's system.
Squad members can only talk in squad chat.
Squad leaders can talk in squad chat and with other squad leaders + commander.
Commander can talk in squad chat, with squad leaders as well as broadcast for the entire team.
This way squad members are focused on squad related call-outs. Squad leaders are getting orders from commander where and what their squad should be doing. Commander will be commanding the squad leaders as well as broadcasting to the entire team in general.
So with this we'll have squad chat, in which the squad members/leader can talk. Team chat where only the commander can talk, but everyone else can listen to even when they have NOT activated voice in this chat. Then we need a new command chat where only squad leaders and the commander can talk, and squad members will not be able to listen in this chat.
We then also need a quick way for squad leaders and commander to switch chats.
I'm not sure if CCP can actually make these changes, as they seem to having trouble making it so you can talk in one chat, but also listen to other chats at the same time. |

Great suggestion. I like Model 1 - simple and elegant.
Here's a workaround with the current system. It relies heavily on keeping voice comms clear of chatter, but limits the # of people speaking at the same time:
Step 1: Everyone in the team goes to a separate voice chat channel Step 2: MUTE everyone Step 3a: squad members in Squad 1 UNMUTE everyone in Squad 1 (alternatively also Squad leaders of other squads) Step 3b-c: same for other squads Step 3d: squad leaders UNMUTE all squad members of their squad, and other squad leaders |

Additional bonus idea: If Team/Squad leader has PTT for team wide comms, they could have an option to choose a 'ping' sound for opening the comms to let people shut up. Without having to open every team order by "check check" or "comms comms" |

We could tie this to the PTT button when the Commander is on full voice not PTT. |

Here's another work around. Check-Check/Comms Clear, Everyone shuts up, Squad orders given, chatter is not present in CB unless relevant, "Draco check your 6" . If everyone can hear the commands and understand how to respond then being on one channel is not an issue, however a way to separate squad and team comms and still allow the squad leaders to communicate effectively would allow for a better comms system in the field.

I would love it if they gave us a MAG style comms system (prox chat included).
IDK though, part of me thinks we'd get it quicker if we just paid for a communal TS3 server. |

Yeah me too. But I don't seriously expect everyone in a corp to drag their PS3 next to their computer (if any) just to have outside voice software. This is still a console game. |

There is no I in team and no one on my team refers to I or you because they aren't fighting with us. This is fine in eve, not so much a shooter. Constant comms are needed, and telling everyone to shut up is rarely a good thing in a fast-paced fight. That's why model 1 works so well, as it largely matches how we've been setting up teamspeak and mumble for shooters for years now, since it offers the ideal compromise. |

True, let's hope it gets fixed.
Still, it is extremely tedious to emulate proper comms that way - especially if there are newer players in team. Also, the quick max-two-click channel select is still missing.
Feeling the scanner is too simple and off balance?
