dust is meant for the long haul so yes you shouldn't be playing for sp but because you enjoy the game, other wise this game will be very frustrating.
as to the isk you make, that's dependent on the value of equipment you destroy, I've seen as little as 70k to as much as 500k rewarded in a match(300k personally), so no you are not meant to run proto gear non stop, I run suits that cost the price of an AVnade and rake in a mill a day easy, this allows me to run proto in matches I want to give that little extra push in. |

Tired of earning low SP? Pay us real money and We'll give you a boost!
I think CCP has taken it a bit far.
Its a "pay to skip ahead", the balancing of the weapons might make it seem like "pay to win". Unfortunately thats the business model associated with F2P games that have a low incentive for cosmetic only stuff or the technically inability to create such cosmetic stuff. Good F2P examples are LoL, while bad are Vindictus, while i think Dust is in the middle like WoT or D&D online or Planetside2. Yes u understand the idea pretty well, the idea is to create a high incentive for the player to buy in game stuff with RM, not to-be "fair" or "humble". In the end the families of the Dust developers have to eat every day :p I don't know they removed a lot of the proto level AUR weapons which is a move in the right direction. but yea its an artifact of there being no player trading yet which would allow non money users to play with those items, I can almost guaranty you it's sonys fault, like most of the problems in this game.
EDIT: although it could be that ccp is trying to balance item pricing before it starts adding the complications that RM has on the "economy". Because CCP hasn't done this before and doesn't have an economist on staff.
EDIT: oooohhhh wait thats right they have and they do |

Its always the fault of the person/team that signs the contract in the first place. If CCP did promise to get a "great" FPS MMO game out on PS3 by 2013, than all Sony did was to accept this offer via a contract. CCP did earn enough money via EvE to be fully independent, means they had no pressure whatsoever to get into a deal with Sony in the first place, so its CCP fault to overreach there capabilities in terms of FPS game on a PS3. Also as it stands most "problems" i see today are technically related to the capabilities of CCP Dust dev team and the unreal engine 3 running on PS3, none of which has anything to-do with Sony.
And yet every thing goes through the PSN, login, market transaction, contacts, match making, and inventory(which means its part of mid match). So yes the network that does a **** poor job of content distribution and match making(no sony does not host any games) is now a central part dust 512. Not to mention you can bet that CCP is going thru a hell of a time every time money is involved, look at UVTs. Sony has a long standing record of running games, and CCP still had to sign a contract, so yes while they could have done what they wanted on PC they are tied by exclusivity contract to sony. Frankly this is probably why CCP released a product that they knew was unfinished, so that the timer on their exclusivity contract would start so they could really put the fire to sonys feet. |

also This machine is capable of much more and with the dice team CCP should be done with this game already, and yet there are constant signs of network issues and with traq handing off to crest handing off to sonys PSN a few thousand times a second It's not surprising, I wonder which net work is causing the biggest lag?? I'm guessing the one that doesn't host the largest persistent universe, almost with out flaw, 23/7/365, and is probobly the one that hands out user information to every bored script kiddy |

Flaws are glaringly obvious. As stated by the OP, You cant even earn enough to restock a tank with basic in one match. Are we supposed to play three matches in order to roll around in a tank for 2 minutes before getting blown up by turrets and/or guys with mobile missile launchers?
The good stuff takes too long to get to, AKA, Low SP earned + Low Isk per match = Not much fun. So are we expected to run around with are basic suits white there are guys in heavy suits with heavy machine guns just non chalantly walking around mowing everything down? I was shooting my militia assault rifle at this guy back for literally at least 6 seconds and he finally turns around and shoots me for 1 seconds and Im dead.
So...that leads us to you wanting to get better weapons, better suits, better fittings, but if you invest in one of those, you cant invest in the other until you have many skills on that one thing so that you can get the suit/gun. So I am expected to play for two weeks or so to get access to just better weapons? Then another two weeks to get better suits?
TL;DR it takes to long to earn SP and ISK. There are many shooters out there, If CCP continues to approach the FPS genre the same way they do with EVE, then this game will fail. We can just go play COD, or whatever other monthly shooters there are.
CCP Likes to make things hard, as seen with EVE but with EVE, they can make things as hard as they want because there is no real competition for EVE, here I can just pop in BF3 and be done.
Oh, I also love the people who say "well go play another shooter if you like earning SP quicker" or something like that. Makes me laugh. Yeah, like these people love taking hours and hours of doing something before they can be incrementally better, gear wise. Because that is all this is about really. More SP = better gear = play longer = have more fun.
I guess these people having nothing else to do in their lives.
frankly I take down PRO suits in STD basic with STD weapons all the time, this game is not meant to be run in proto all the time, the are meant to be the occasional tactical advantage, and frankly out side of the occasional close match or PC battle are really only for tryhards.
now tanks I agree but that is because tanks are underpowered because, every one freaks out and says they are OP when they can't tanks them down solo with STD swarm or AV nades, all because there is no dedicated AV in the game becuase with out vehicles worth a damn no one wants to spec into and run vehicles and therefor AV is a waste of time isk and SP. Its a stupid cycle perpetuated by the endless tears of the slayers.

I had a guy on coms the other day say he wanted to play OMS because he get more points piloting a HAV. That sentence, in my mind, is what hurts the game the most. They can fix aim issues and item balance but they can't get away from the grind mentality. Grinding is the downfall of DUST; people feel the need to grind not the desire to play. I think that's their way of making this a "MMO" as most of them have grind one way or another. They need to make it a bit more MMO style.. Honestly I wouldn't mind implementing the EVE feature of how skills and SP work as compared to this current setup. That would ultimately remove the "Grind" feeling and replace it directly with "Lets jump on Dust and have fun" feeling, while knowing that whether your playing or not, your character is generating SP. That will ultimately make it feel more "lets have fun where the character is at" and less "I gotta play this character to "grind" to where I wanna be argh!" feeling.
I'm Ok with that Idea I don't think many others would be tho. |
