it seems pretty clear at this point that this game just WON'T WORK on a PS3.
Let's hope that CCP has come to the same conclusion (how could they not?) and the reason development has been so terrible for PS3 is because they've been quietly devoting their development time on the actual game that they envision.
I hope it comes out on both PS4 and PC, because I really don't see a good reason for anyone with a decent PC rig to buy a PS4 until it has a nice backlog of exclusives a few years into it's lifecycle. |

I'm glad they're cutting used games out of the market. Developers will make A LOT more money towards developing better games. Buying used games is ethically much shadier than pirating.
If I were a developer I'd rather you play my game for free, than pay SOMEONE ELSE to play my game. In each case, I would make no money, but at least if you pirate it some third party isn't making a profit off of my work. |

If they really do make it so that things like Gamefly and Gamestop go away then they are taking a step in the wrong direction. Used games, rented games and shared games are nothing to scoff at and honestly after seeing what Xbox 1 is turning into I doubt I will be purchasing that system. Buying used saves you what? $5 usually? And for that $5 savings you screw the developer out of making ANY money off the sale? It's a terrible and selfish practice, and frankly, it's only legal because making it illegal is too difficult to enforce.
If game prices on consoles scaled based on age and popularity like they do for PC, no one would care about buying used. I haven't paid full price for a videogame in years, and I never buy used... then again, I never buy my games on little plastic discs either. |

I haven't paid full price for a videogame in years, and I never buy used... then again, I never buy my games on little plastic discs either. Is it any more shady than how EA and Activision operates? Don't get me wrong. Developers should profit, but should they be allowed to profit in a way that kind of screws over the players? I mean, seriously. A $52 fee for installing a pre-owned copy of a game on the Xbox One? How much do pre-owned copies usually cost? $20 or $30 depending on how long you wait? Then having to cough up an additional $52 because the developers got greedy? That's practically $72-$82 right there. I might as well buy a brand new copy for $60. EDIT: Oh wait. It's not the developers that are greedy. It's the publishers. I'm screwed either way.
There's no such thing as a "USED GAME." You can buy a game on a used disc, but the game itself is the same as a brand new copy assuming the medium isn't damaged.
You people are still treating the little plastic disc used to deliver the game to you as if it is the game itself. but it's not. It's just the medium.
It's no different than a USB drive, a flash card, or a download over the internet. What you are paying for is THE GAME, not the medium they use to deliver the game to you.
Just because you bought the game on a round plastic disc, doesn't mean you should get to sell someone else access to the game. You're not buying a vendor license to sell the game to other people and keep the profit of the sale, you're buying access to the game itself.
So yes, buying a used disc or $30, knowing that you're just buying a piece of plastic and haven't actually purchased the right to play the game would be silly. Instead, you would just buy the game like you currently buy a game off of steam, or off of the PSN store. For PC, the longer a game is out, and the less sales it's getting, the cheaper it gets (generally). There's no reason to assume the same wouldn't eventually apply to consoles as well, as they move from selling plastic discs with games on them, to selling you the games themselves. |

Greedy snarky little bitches, selling you a game for $60 that isn't even complete and then charge you upwards of $60 or more totaling $120+ just for content that would equal what a game used to come with for $40-$50 dollars. I love my Gamefly. I get to play all the new games and then send them back when I am done with them and it only costs me a couple bucks a month and over half the games I rent from them are so crap I would of stopped buying games all together because of how sad the market is now. I would feel bad for developers if more than half of the trash they released every year was worth half as much as the trash they released last year. Unfortunately we have left the era of great games though and now it is all about killing more monsters or higher res visuals or continuing that quest that noone really wanted to play in the first place but you just happened to be the only game that was kind of decent at the time. I find it funny that my NES collection is still my biggest game collection and still like 99% of those games more than half of every other systems games I own. Hell I only have 7 PS3 games that I actually own because the rest weren't worth more than a rental to even have them.
Well, that's fine, and I pretty much completely agree with you. Most games, especially on consoles, suck.
That doesn't change the reality of how games work though. There is no difference from a game you buy on a little plastic disc and one that you download online, aside from the medium you purchased it. So why should the guy who buys the plastic disc be able to sell access to the game to a third party, but the person who downloads the game cannot? It just doesn't make any sense, and to argue otherwise is to be a bit of a luddite.
Honestly, I'll be surprised if disc based gaming isn't a small niche market within 5 years anyway, reserved for only those with particularly poor ISPs. |
