So, I am a decent player with about 4 mil sp. My best fit is an advanced med frame with a duvolle tac ar, three complex shield extenders, and a standard locus grenade. Unfortunately, it cannot stand up to the proto logis and such, and coupled with my pretty high death rate, my inability to play much, and my relatively small isk payout with the respec, I'm losing money fast.
I've tried using militia gear, but with it's current state and the abundance of proto bears, it just isn't a viable option. Something has to be done. |

Just an observation that Prototype are not overpowered.
Oh and by the way, they are the highest tier suit out there - they are designed to be "beastly", if you will. That is why it costs 100k+ per fully fitted suit. But, were they proto suits? You never said anything about the suits' meta lvl. And you said assault suits, correct? Did you mean the basic frames, or actual assaults, or logis? And if assaults or logis, what meta lvl were they? I've heard anything under proto is completely useless. And the assault suits aren't much better than the basic frames. |

You could downgrade to a GLU-5 TAR - this reduces the isk cost very significantly, at the cost of 6 bullets in the clip. The damage reduction genuinely isn't noticeable. You could adjust your tactics. If you're going toe to toe with a protosuit, then perhaps you should change your tactics. If that toe to toe situation changes to you coming up behind them, you should be able to drop them relatively easily. Just got to make sure your shots land.
I mostly use the GLU, and it works all right. I can usually 1v1 a proto suit, sometimes, and just get out alive, but the problem is the sheer number of proto suits running around with proto tac ARs and tanked logi suits. By the time I get 2 or 3 shots, them or their friend have spotted me and got me down to half health. I'll then fire randomly in their direction, trying to find my attacker. I'll then switch to my advanced SMG, since my tac AR is almost out of ammo and almost useless in the close quarters fire fight that is about to insue, but I'm almost out of health, there are two or more of them, and guess what, SMGs kinda suck unless you have the drop on someone or are finishing them off. So, guess who wins. |

You did not mention if you were running solo. I am not referring to whether you are part of a squad but rather if you are finding yourself isolated from support. I squad could help with this, depending on the members, as they should be more willing to run support if you are the spearhead of the squads attack.
If you are joining random squads who instantly disperse on spawning then I would suggest staying with the largest group of blues you can find.
I have found my experiences with squads, as part of a player corp, have varied a lot depending on the members but I generally do better as part of a squad rather than running solo so long as the individual players remember that they are part of a squad.
Finally get those passive skills to max if you can as you will be able to run cheap militia and STD and still be fairly effective which will help support the more expensive fits, particularly when you get to proto suits. I do run with a squad when I can. It is a much better experience. Unfortunately, I just can't play with a squad sometimes and when I do, it is sometimes a very bad one. |
