This is my normal path:
1. Survivability (meaning raw HP from armor and shield) 2. Skill into the gun I want to use (nothing extra for damage) 3. Concentrate on skills needed to fit the ideal lay out for the suit I've chosen (meaning PG/CPU skils) 4. Skill into the modules I want to use on the fitting
Once that is complete, and you can run the current fit, start speccing into the next suit you want (typically a higher tier suit). The skills you need for that will "trickle down" to the "old suit". So for example, if you need extra PG/CPU in the higher tier suit to fit that higher tier gun, your added skills in that area will let you go back to the older one and modify the fitting to make it more effective, so you can continue to save the higher tier suit for those special occassions when you need a larger influence in the match.
Generally speaking, though, I would encourage all of the "core" skills. By this I am referring to skills that do not apply to specific suits or modules. For example, the Shield skill that gives a bonus to total HP is great, but the skill that gives you a better effeicienct of shield modules is less so if you prefer to armor tank (since probably won't have a shield module, the SP spent in this skill are not used). |

Once I have the ideal fitting, I then start looking at secondary skills (like the ones that boost hacking speed, improve scan profile signature, add effectiveness to specific module types, etc) |

Don't much about shields as a Gallente. Focus more on armour amd armour reppers.
You only need armour to level 1 or 3 depending on what your going to use. Complex plates slow you down far too much.
Put a few levels into your weapon of choice, and try to get a advanced suit ASAP.
My basic setup is one complex dmg mod, 1 basic shield mod, 2 reppers (whatever you can fit) and one basic or enhanced plate.
You can switch out the 2 reppers for a 1 complex repper and 2 basic plates. |

I'm with Alexandria. Get your basic suit, find a style you like to play, then work your way to the next level with the same basic setup.
More directly, at that SP level, I would go for an ADV suit with ADV weapon. The rest I would pour into tanking and fitting skills until you get the basic ones up to level III (and maybe IV). You should bSe able to fit an ADV suit with plenty of ADV modules and the occasional STD module if you have decent fitting skills. |
