What do you find to be more useful repair tools or drop uplinks. I am currently using a repair tool in my logi fit for traditional reasons, but I have this urge to spec into drop uplinks when I get my respec. I've noticed both are not needed unless in a heated battle. So I just wanted to get some opinions from you guys on what you think is more useful.

It depends on the situation in my experience, and I would recommend that is you have limited slots and have to make this choice, you create two fittings - one for each situation.
For example, in domination, you need the uplinks every time, as you can't spawn on the objective. If you are redlined, you also need the links to help get your team out.
That said, if you are defending a hardened position, then the repair tool is more important. |

Both ... Make a copy of you favorite dropsuit. One with a Repair tool, and one with Up-links. Then you can use them strategically, depending on what phase you are in the battle. |

I don't play logistics (well maybe very rarely on an alt) but I do carry a repair tool in my assault fit usually. Repair tools are nice and generally useful - I am not sure that they are generally going to play a crucial part of winning a game unless your whole team is built around repping. Most of your damage dealers will probably be shield tanked so the armor reps are more of a nice after thought. Armor tanked Assaults like myself will have a lot of active armor repair modules already (the movement restriction on plates means armor tanking assault types go with active rather then passive tanks) and thus will not need reps.
The only dropsuit type that lives or dies on remote repairs is the armor tanked heavy. If you regularly team up with an armor tanked heavy then you probably don't need to ask if remote repair equipment modules are good. If you don't - then you have probably noticed fewer heavies in public matches since uprising. Not being a heavy class I don't know the reason but it is likely due to the range reductions which hurt open field capabilities of the (now) CQC heavy machine gun. So the heavies that are left are probably defending objectives, not seeing as much combat and sitting around waiting for one to get hurt probably is not going to be super exciting.
Drop uplinks on the other hand can play an enormous strategic/tactical role. It is rare but in just the right kind of battle I think they can be the determining factor (for skirmish matches). They drawback is they can hurt you team as easily as help (assuming public matches). Where I have seen them used effectively they tend to be mass dropped (so as to randomize the spawning forces and be harder to take out) at a target objective to overwhelm defenders and negate their spawn advantage. Keep in mind that poorly placed drop uplinks throw mindless team mates into kill zones or far from the objectives they should be going to. |

Drop Uplink FTW.
I can log into a public match then make my team win simply by placing the right uplinks in the right spot..
ok i exaggerated there.. both a player with a good map awareness can place good uplinks and make a lot of WP.
but as said before you can DESTROY your chance of winning a match by placing them poorly. |
