Okay, this is something that almost no FPS out there does. When you get hit by a spray of bullets, your health goes down, but you stay calm and fire back.
What if our characters screamed in pain when they got hit?
Obviously, not every weapon is going to make them wail in agony. If you keep getting hit by continuous SMG fire, you should grunt and sound like you're trying your best to ignore the bullets and fight against it. If you get blown up, you should scream in pure agony right before you die.
It just adds a huge level to immersion that would be really cool. Want to see what an effect it has? Watch this. |

lol that video...
Everything Dust 514 SHOULD have (and if released on PC COULD have) been.
(Except for that part about the LAV rolling up and killing that tank, instantly.)
When I heard that Uprising was getting a graphics overhaul, I imagined we would be getting what I saw in that video... I was so wrong...
Actually, other FPS games actually do this. BF3, doesn't have as much screaming when guys get blown up, but they scream all the time, when they are getting shot at, detecting a sniper, detecting a tank, etc. Usually, it's an audio notice from other player toons to you. You give or get a med pack, usually you hear your guy go "here's a first aid kit buddy" or something similar.
Same goes for Call of Duty... (although hearing your toon cry like a sissy in CoD is kinda silly).
+1 for Immersion. |

Your body doesn't take any damage until your shields and armor are down, and at that point you die from one hit no matter where you're shot because our weapons are so advanced. I don't see why we would feel any pain since its our shields and armor taking the damage. |

The guys in Gears of War curse if they jam their reloads o3o
The only reason I'd be against CCP implementing audio for the mercs is because lore-wise, the voices of the mercs (and of course their memories/minds) are the only things that separate them from each other. |

All brownscaled "NEXT GEN HD" like everything that came out in the first 2 months of the XBox 360. No color or variety of set pieces or anything.
I actually was going to say Metroid Prime. They way they had Samus cry out when you took damage really added to the immersion, and you could do it more subtly in Dust if need be, like a low grunt or other type of exclamation.
The best implementation would be to have the exclamation be based on the damage you're taking so that you know when you're getting hit hard, and can more quickly react. That way the feature adds to both immersion and gameplay at the same time. This would actually be a major boon to armor tankers, since this would let them react faster to losing armor rapidly, as I said before. Naturally, with the shield being an energy barrier in a sphere around the character, you wouldn't get this auditory feedback from damage. |
