One of the better ideas behind a respec, I tip my hat to you. As for the previous comment, I'm sorry but you're wrong. This game needs some kind of respec feature otherwise it is doomed to failure. The way EVE works means that you don't need a respec ever, as you can realise during the training of that skill that it isn't what you want.
I'll say this only once more:
With the way the current levelling system works, we need a respec system.
What happens when the next build goes live and we have new gear, weapons and all kinds of goodies? We can't grind for them and get them at our own speed because of how the current system works.
Please also note that I agree 100% that we should have no respec ever if the SP system were identical to that of EVE. |

Joseph Ridgeson wrote:The problem is that the game is still quite unfinished. This isn't a case of "oh, well the Ravager LAV's aren't going to be in the game until 2014", this is a case of "The Caldari/Minmatar/Gallente Sentinel does not exist" but we know that it is just around the corner. Should dedicated Sentinel players be forced to go Amarr or wait? Example: your corporation needs Sentinels for Planetary Conquest. Your Heavies don't want to be an Amarr Heavy because they are not Amarr themselves. This means their either go Amarr despite what they want to do or they go rockin' Militia in PC. Both options are what one would call "lackluster."
I believe there needs to be a respec or a refunding of certain skill once everything that should be in the game is released (so every race being represented with a suit type). For stuff tacked on later, stuff that isn't even a twinkle in daddy's eye, I say no to a refund. The game is just so unfinished/patchwork right now it would make the Minmatar utterly proud. Functional but patchwork. Pretty much this, respecs need to happen but you need to ask, where does it stop? We need some kind of function that allows us to work within the parameters of the current system or change the system entirely.
EVE is great with having no respecs because you can stop training something at any time if it's a bad decision or you change your mind but you can not do that in Dust. This is the problem. |

Not saying that balance changes aren't needed, that's what Betas are for (and this is still Beta, regardless of what the official designation is). But they tend to break things when they "adjust" them.
Once the above processes are completed, remove the option. More specifically the balance issues, you shouldn't be able to spec into something that can be broken in an instant. The laser rifle in Chromosone was unbelievably overpowered so they nerfed it into uselessness, and now anybody who specs into laser rifles gets the sharp end of a stick to the face. That is why respecs are needed. |
