1. I have a mic that has worked for every other game on my PS3 but does not seem to be linking correctly with Dust. When you see the names ingame and see a speech buble with a Xin it beside yours does that mean your mic is not working? And is there anything special I have to do to make my mic work with Dust?
2. When do new players get out of the academy?
3. Is there anyway to completly customize the controls, or do we only have the pre-sets? Had to set my LAV to reverse-drive for it to be driveable for me, tried a HAV but they only have pre-sets with the gas, brake, reverse, and steering all on the same stick. As not only a gamer that plays FPS but Racing as well I would like to be able to drive the way I am used to.
4. I really like machine guns. I use them in every FPS I play. They are the first thing I garb. Is it a bad thing that I have already started specing my SP into being able to run HMG? and what other then the Amarr Heavy Dropsuits and HMGs should I be putting sp into to make it run well? Already have the Advance HMG. And what side arm will help me at long range?(P.S. yes I tryed the Assult HMG, I put it right back down due to the dmg it lacks, my normal HMG kills much faster and feels better to me).
5. I have heard Dust Univestity is a good corp for new players, how do you join a Corp?
6. Really stupid question but others have probably thought the same thing. I have never played Eve but a friend of mine in high school did. Told me abou the power of the Titans Doomsday weapon. Since ships in Eve can fire Orbital strikes at us I am wondering, what happens if a Titan happens to be in orbit and happens to fire the Doomsday weapon while we are fighting on the ground of the planet the Titan is orbiting?
Thats all, and thank you, really enjoying Dust so far. Beware of my HMG and of the bumper of my LAV. |

1. Iunno
EDIT: There is an option in System Operation that enables / disables Voice Chat and Push To Talk - Make sure to enable Voice Chat, and while it's not essential, Push To Talk is nice to have on (especially if you're a mouthbreather)
2. When you reach a total of 10,000 lifetime warpoints (which, IMO, is way too early)
3. Presets (Not sure if custom mapping is on its way)
4. Not at all. You're actually ahead of the pack already by knowing what you want to specialize in. I would personally work on core skills (Dropsuit Upgrades -> Dropsuit Core Upgrades) as these carry over into all other suits you use. You might also want to pick up armor / shield skills too, so you can utilize shield extenders and armor plates. Weapon Upgrades wouldn't hurt either (more damage is always welcome).
As for a sidearm, the SMG is pretty good. The Scrambler Pistol has mean headshots and the Flaylock Pistol is devastating against unshielded opponents.
5. It's a corp designed to help new players learn the game. Search the corp in your Neocom (L1 -> Corporation -> Search "Dust Uni" -> select the corp -> apply).
6. As of right now, nothing. The game is still very young and CCP (despite what you might read in the General forum) is a very capable developer that has relentlessly been updating EVE Online for the past 10 years (with another free expansion coming in a few weeks). This game, while it may be lacking now, will definitely improve with plenty of new content in the future.
To kinda answer your question better though, Destroyers are the only ship with bombardment capability at the moment, but this is likely to change.
Glad to hear you're enjoying Dust so far. Feel free to spray that HMG from behind my Gunnlogi anytime (provided you're on my side; otherwise I'd find some cover). |

Sounds more like everyone else is muted on your end. Try hitting 'X' on the 'Team' tab and select 'Unmute All'. See if that clears things up.

No, it isn't entirely a bad thing to sink SP into HMGs right away. Just be aware that better suits will provide greater amounts of CPU/PG to more comfortably fit better modules and weapons. As far as side arms are concerned, not many offer particularly good range. Scrambler Pistols offer greatly increased damage to headshots, SMGs are essentially a 'spray and pray' weapon, Nova Knives are likely not going to be your cup of tea, and Flaylock Pistols are basically mini-grenade launchers.

If you want to join a corporation, D-Uni and Bojo's School of the Trades are both great choices for newbies. I started in D-Uni, and even though I didn't get much out of it, you very well might. To join a corporation, hit the 'Start' button when in your mercenary quarters, head down to the corporation tab, and search for 'Dust University' or 'DUNI'. Select it, and hit the 'Apply' button.

As far as I know, the only weapon systems that can affect infantry combat are precision/orbital strike weapon systems.

Since I'm skilled into demolitions, sometimes I drop proximity mines in areas likely to be high traffic. Good luck.

The X simply means you can't hear yourself. You'll know your mic is working if there is a mic icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. This is on whenever people can hear you (if you're using push to talk, this will only be on when you use the PTT button)
If there isn't one, search around in settings on the neocom (start menu). There should be an option to toggle voice chat and push to talk.
I suggest turning push to talk on. All it does is make it so people can only hear you when you're holding down the PTT button (if you have a ps3 controller, it'll be the left button on the D-pad). You should use it because it's obnoxious otherwise. People who don't use PTT ALWAYS clog up voice chat with unintended noise, and just about everyone who's listening to voice chat wants to crawl through the internets and strangle them. |

Thanks for the info, and I know what you mean about push talk. On CoD I end up muting alot of people maining because they can't stop making noise. Kid screaming, people fighting, eating, using the bathroom, etc. |

1. Make sure you have mic turned on in Dust's System Options and push-to-talk turned off. Make sure you activate voice on the right channel (squad channel, team channel, corp channel, etc). If still not working, reboot Dust.
2. 15-20 matches
3. Just presets for now.
4. That's fine. You should start spec'ing into Armor Plates first (10% speed penalty is nothing for heavies. 10% of nothing is still nothing). Then probably spec into some damage mods and shields. Engineering and Electronics as well to increase your fitting PG and CPU. A good sidearm for the HMG is the Scrambler Pistol, fires fast and does 400% damage on headshots.
5. Go to your Neocom (pause menu), go to corps, search for the corp, apply.
6. Right now EVE players can only fire specific weapons at Dust players, and only if Dust players get enough points and then send in an order. |
