Let's start with the laser rifle.
The variation on these weapons between the different levels is small. Damage is the same across all of them, and it's not really impressive, even inside of it's optimal. In fact, there are only two differences between the laser rifles: First is heat build, which isn't that bad on the basic, and doesn't look like it gets that much better at higher levels. Next is the damage it gives you from over heating. By the time you get to the viziam, the over heat damage is enough to outright kill most fitted suits at full health. You're basically spending a lot of isk and far too much sp on something that's really not that much of an improvement on the standard despite being fully capable of killing you all on it's own. Lasers are really obsolete in this build, as are other weapons, but we will get to that.
Next is the hmg. You guys have done a lot of work fixing it, and it shows. That said, it's still in a sorry state. The bullets now reach up to 30m which is nice, but not really enough, and the spread is so wide that it's not really effective beyond 10 meters. The problem is that the ar is generally effective at something like 40-60 meters. You can still just back up and pound on a heavy from a distance. The walk backwards strategy still works really well against an hmg, rendering it problematic to use in most situations. Actually, almost all situations. It has a tendancy to get out ranged by shotguns. The starting spread on the standard needs to go down by about 1/4 and the assault variant needs to go down to 1/2 and the range off the bullets needs a dramatic increase. I know that you want these guns to be defensive, CCP, but it's almost impossible to defend crap when everyone can kill you at at least twice your range and there are really no cqc maps.
Another weapon you never see anymore is the mass driver. Damage is good, range, and splash are fine, it's hit detection I'm hearing complaints about, but I don't know for fact. I've not used it since chromosome as sp is brutally short now, and a lot of guns got ****** in uprising.
The last gun on my list is the ar. It is part of the problem that is driving other guns out. It has more range, damager and better time to kill than most other weapons in the game. Then, you add in the tar. It has a high damager and fires as fast as you pull the trigger. This means that people can cheat and use controls that allow them to fire at the max rof and melt everything else, even heavies, in less than a second. It has the longest range, behind only sniper rifles and forge guns. So, basically, it's effective at all ranges within it's range, and makes other weapons obsolete. It needs a nerf to it's rof so that it can't be abused in this way.
This is my 2 bits on things, anyway. The long and short of it is, the ar is op, other weapons are up, the laser is a bad joke, and the tar needs to get turbo nerfed. |
