For those of you who don't know, CCP has stated that they do plan on adding a small scale gladiator-type mode sometime in the future. Quite simply, it's your standard Halo/CoD match, TDM, FFA, CTF, etc.
So I was thinking about the cool things they can do. We already know they plan on letting Eve and other players spectate and bet on these matches for a chance to earn some ISK, but what we dot know is how exactly these matches will work. I made up a list of things I would like to see in this mode whenever they decide to bring it out.
1. Game types
I would like to a broad range of game modes. Some standard to the FPS genre and some unique game types that test each mercenary's capacity the survival with all odds against them. Here are just a few ideas I came up with:
-Team Deathmatch: Classic TDM. Use team work to overcome the enemy!
-Deathmatch: Your standard Free-for-all. You're on your own soldier! Eliminate anything and everything that tries to stop you!
-Capture the Flag: Get in the enemy's base and retrieve their flag more times than they can capture yours!
-Infiltrate: Get into the enemy's base and destroy their core by any means necessary. This means grenades, gun fire, or hacking it for a certain amount of time.
-Poltergeist: Can you survive the encounter? One player is selected to be the "Poltergeist", who will be equipped with an unlimited amount of cloak and only a nova knife. All other players must either survive until the time is up or when the Poltergeist is dealt with.
-Hunted: A small group of players are armed with snipers at an isolated location while the rest of the players have no equipment at all. They must reach their destination without getting sniped in order to escape. If more than 1/4 of the players escape, the hunters lose.
Ah! But there's twist! Help out your comrades! Any one who has escaped can risk it all and try to counter sniper. If they do choose to do so, the Hunters will be alerted. If a counter sniper is killed they lose. (Keep in mind the Hunters will always have the advantage as to counter sniping truly a risk)
If there's anything you thought of but wasn't here, feel free to leave them as a reply.
2. Maps: As for maps, I would like to see maps specifically built for each mode.
Tight spaces and all kinds of different paths to take in DM Symmetrical maps for TDM and CTF. Combination of close quarters and open spaces and maybe areas only the Poltergeist can access for "Poltergeist". And open areas with plenty of cover for Hunted.
3. Fittings and equipment:
I would prefer that everyone has the exact same fittings in most of the game modes (other than Poltergeist and Hunted) and have weapons scattered across the maps, and maybe even active modules for your suits, whenever those come out.
I wouldn't mind having a Halo ODST style where everyone has multiple preset loadouts, but they must be reasonable. Like AR, TAC AR, Sniper (with no Sidearm). I would recommend having weapons in Arena mode having their own stats. Maybe make an "Arena" variant of each weapon that cant be purchased but only used in the arena modes.
Also no Nanite injectors, rep tool is fine, although I think everyone having armor rep module would be better.
4. Immersion:
I want it to feel like the battles are actually being broadcasted and watched by others. Have some maps take place in an actual arena where you can hear people cheering or have small camera drones flying above the map and commentators making, well, comments. Imagine playing and all you hear is "Clone 03 takes a huge lead by d amount of kills!" Followed by cheers and screens from the spectators. It would add a really cool effect to it.
5. Tournaments:
Host tournaments where players compete for grand prizes such as ISK or special edition drop suits and equipment. These should be real events hosted by either other players or CCP themselves. Add a record of all winners of past tournaments and make a name for yourself as the ultimate soldier of New Eden. These would also be great to boost your own or your corps' reputation leading to more people requesting for your services for PC and other Eve/Dust related things.
Not only would this whole idea be tied to the core game by effecting who is hired for and ultimately how battles in PC turn out, but this would attract a bunch of new people into Dust if executed correctly. People would get drawn in by this and quickly discover all the other things the game has to over such PC battles and the epic big battles that require a huge amount of teamwork. Before they know it they'll be in a corp with people they like an enjoying the game to its full extent.
Please, if you have any more ideas to add to this or anything you find need tweeking, please share it! |

Draxus Prime wrote:is it just me or does poltergeist sound like the hidden lol It essentially is but the poltergeist doesn't have Spider-Man powers. It's not a new concept really, Crysis 3 has something like it. I put that in there because of the Colosseum and how they would put one man against multiple fierce lions, except now its the other way around |

It would be hard enough for the one guy as he won't have anyone watching his back. |
