The few seconds of invisibility is a blessing, however the locations of default spawning (primarily in ambush matches) is in such a deplorable state that it allows the one thing that ruins many FPS games, spawn camping.
When you spawn surrounded by live grenades, when you spawn directly in enemy territory with no teammates in site, or when you spawn in only to be run over by a **** in a baloch before taking a single step then you know that something is terribly wrong with the spawn algorithms. Myself and many other teammates have lost millions of ISK in prototype gear simply because the game plopped us down in an overrun kill-zone with no chance of survival.
Just spawn us in relatively close to our team, a safe distance from any enemy unit, and not in the crosshairs of the enemy. |

Bad game design is bad game design mate.
CCP have had years to design and implement something that works.
It's probably clear at this point that it is all beyond them.
Or they are happy for you to lose your expensive equipment that could easily be replaced with a cash purchase. |

I spawned with the enemy 8 times today. I am just gonna start waiting for 10 seconds or so before I spawn now. |

Ambush and its OMS variant are awful, primarily because of the spawning mechanics. I've taken to playing Skirmish exclusively, and as a result, am actually having fun.
Today, I tried going back to OMS... never again. Once you get used to non-terrible spawning mechanics, dealing with any Ambush mode is frustrating. And to make matters worse, you not only have to contend with spawning, but also the matchmaking and the severly unbalaced teams that result. |

Yeah, it's something that needs work. It's gotten better with the spawn invisibility, but it can still happen way too often. Funnily enough, it happens the most in Ambush OMS now, less in regular Ambush.

Though, I stopped feeling sympathetic when I read this. If you go proto in pubmatches, you have no reason to complain because you're contributing to the frustration of a lot of newbies.
Taking that into consideration, maybe spawnkilling is good for the DUST economy, who knows. |
