As an avid motorcyclist with an illegally suped up, and consequently fun, race bike, I am really looking forward to the speeder bikes coming in an expansion. Since they are still in SOONvelopment, I thought I would weigh in from the POV of someone who has been through it all on a two wheeled speed demons (lately a black GÇÖ07 CBR600rr with about $15k of aftermarket parts installed on it ).
LetGÇÖs begin with real world counterparts to address the look, feel, and purposes of what eve racial bikes would kind of seem to be IMHO:
Caldari- Japanese Racers. Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. Bare minimal and highly functional. Made to go fast and to last.
Gallente- Italian Cafe Racers. Ducati, Aprilla, and MV Agusta. High end and expensive upkeep. No faster than the competition really, but it looks better getting places.
Minmatar- KTM, Motards and rat bikes. Could be any brand, but they are typically far prettier on the inside than the outside. Usually suped up and purpose specialized bikes either modeled after other races, or consist of outright bastardized originals.
Amarr- BMWs and Harleys. Image driven and beefy. They represent more than a brand, but a way of life. Expensive yet sought after, they truly represent form over function.
NON-NEGOTIABLE... if you want to succeed with these vehicles, at least :):
Physics have to be spot on. !!!Control!!! has to be spot on. bikes should posses very quick acceleration but also be very very maneuverable. Hitting a lamp post would obviously be devastating, but the ability to avoid such obstacles has to be paramount. Going fast quickly, much like real life, will be a disaster if they are not laser beam johnny on the spot as far as controllability. The reason race bikes donGÇÖt kill everyone who rides them (mostly) is due to the fact they are extremely controllable; even at high speeds. They canGÇÖt flip, get stuck on terrain, or catch on edges as they zip around.
Shields should represent lighter and faster (Caldari, Gallente, and some Minmatar).
Armor should represent slower and more capacity (Amarr and some Minmatar).
Some bikes should be better with regards to paved/flat surfaces, and others better for off-roading. I know they will hover/float, but it could be a nice distinction. Much like a race bike vs an enduro type of approach.
Modules:
Scanning, afterburners, cloaking, etc.modules should be included, of course. As far as some specialty modules, IGÇÖd love to at least see a couple GÇ£BikeGÇ¥ specialized or oriented modules. IGÇÖd love to hear ideas?
Perhaps spike strips to take out LAVs? Mine layers? target painters?
ThatGÇÖs just an initial .02isk. IGÇÖd love to hear any one elseGÇÖs thoughts because, I for one, and really looking forward to these little monsters being unleashed on eve. |

haha well played to the OP he has summed up the racial bike to real life counter parts perfectly. As for your handling request... yea good luck with that bud, LAVs can still jump 200m in the air after hitting a stone all the while corkscrewing 2000 rotations like a bad ass James Bond. |

I'm thinking about speeders, and as fast as they may be they'll still be handicapped by the 15 second delay from sending your request to actually riding. Maps are still so small that the speed isn't worth the 15 seconds. So to take advantage of them currently, you'd need to keep them out at all times. But you can't really just walk away from them as they will either blow up or get stolen. What would be nice is some stealth module to make it invisible when you dismount, or perhaps a new equipment that stealths everything nearby, sort of like that gadget from the Unreal Engine 4 demo.
I suppose a potential solution would be to park it a good ways away from your destination and drop a bubble shield around it. Or keep complaining until they get major armor buffs so we can take hits from mulitple swarms and simply make a living off running people over |

inkeeping with new eden designs:
Caldari: built for function. No mad cons, all gun metal, wider than other speeders and shorter. 15m/s, highest shields, lowest armor. Gallente: Some uneeded flair and colour. average width average length, above average armor, average shields, 16m/s Amarr: GOLD AND ***** SHAPED, Highest armor, lowest shields 14m/s Minimatar: Rusty brown, slimmest and longest, (think the stabber, for any eve players). My only issue is that they SHOULD NOT - ABSOLUTELY SHOULD NOT - be brought in by the RDVs. Would be silly having to wait in excess of 15+ seconds to get your speed demon which has no offensive capabilities.
They should drop, from orbit, and hit the ground via Inertia Dampeners, same as dropsuits. INSTANTLY. |

Now that is a bad as idea! +1 my friend. Also, the ideas about cloaking it are good.
A bike would need to go a lot faster than 17 m/s. More like 74 m/s or so depending. And it would help to have bigger maps of course. Since they talked about jets with the bikes at fanfest, I'd imagine both of their releases would coincide with far larger maps being introduced. Because the only thing worse than a speeder bike on a small map is a jet on a small map.
Dual flaylocks on the front would be pretty sweet :) |

Depends. Some HD riders are what us bikers call weekend warriors. you know- spit shined HD with brand new leather saddlebags and uncreased chaps on the dude. Usually in their 50s. And an aging GF with bleached hair on the back.
Then there are HDs that are what we call rat bikes. Jaoanese bikes can be rat bikes as well. my bike is a CBR600rr but it would be called a rat bike. I don't fix damage, I supe up the internals. So race computer on board with chip, aftermarket exhaust that sounds mean but also shaves 25lbs off the weight, monoblock brembo front brake with braided SS cable (on rear brake as well), ohlins read shock.. i could go on :). It also has band aids on the rear fairing to represent each crash ;)
So amarr would be a shiny showroom harley. minmatar would be a sons of anarchy harley. |

I would think Minmatar would be any brand name bike but customized. Look at the Yamaha Vmax (Gen 1) look at the stupid amount of modifications people do to it, to the point the only thing that is still a Vmax is the motor. |

+1 to you, Sir. Although when it comes to suspension I am more of a Penske guy....
I am waiting for speeders and bikes more than any other vehicles. LAVs, HAVs and dropships hold no appeal, but fighters and speeders - all the way!
I definitely think these need to wait for bigger maps though.... and a passenger carrying ability would be fun. I'd enjoy speed running a team mate deep behind enemy lines to drop uplinks or hack objectives.

My requirements are simple:
1. It insta-spawns when called, insta-despawn on command 2. Has hidden explosive in seat. If stolen, press button, thief go BOOM 3. Fast, agile with minimal shield and Armor. It will help against raking fire from ARs etc but you hit a dropsuit then you both die 4. It replaces the free LAV with the militia variant of the hover cycle.
This is what I would like as a minimum.
5. Better models that you could skill into would be very nice. |
