If this were some modern day shooter I could see the point of headshots... at best someone would be wearing a relatively lightly armored helmet with much of their actual head still vulnerable...
But in a game revolving around shields and powered full body armor? You're telling me that the shields around your head are particularly weak for no apparent reason and they decided to use a cheaper metal to make helmets? |

Just messing with you. It is odd on shields but on armor it is just more fun than not having headshots. |

For gameplay purposes. Locational damage makes gameplay a lot better.
Go run around with a scrambler pistol and headshoot fools. It's the best thing ever. |

When weapons penetrate that fancy future shields and armor, it will hit soft clone insides.
Unfortunately, humanoids have important tissue in their heads, that keeps us alive.
Easier to survive damage done to your limbs, then your head.
Also, it adds an additional tactical aspect to the game. Provides reward to those that can aim ;D |

Because the shield makers in the head region are a lot less powerfull than those on the rest of the body and therefore can't produce as great a force field around your head. When it comes to the armor some suits may have some kind of reinforced glass there instead of armor and if not well then it's because of all the electronics circuits in the helmet making the armament around the head much thinner than the rest of the body. Good enough ??
Ohh and if it isn't good enough well final argument is IT'S A GAME !!! it's like that because the elves made it so and santa claus didn't care to change it !!!

Shields work by dispersing the impact energy across the entire surface area of the shield to minimize damage to any particular area. However, our necks are narrow and thus act as a resistor lowering how much energy can be dispersed throughout the rest of the suit thus meaning shots to the head have less of a surface area to disperse the energy from the impact resulting into more damage taken. A solution to this would be redesigning the dropsuit so they are more like a box, but then there would be a larger hitbox. Plus it would look ugly.
Yeah I'm totally talking out my a***, but this is just something that makes gameplay better even if their isn't a logical explanation. Gameplay is always the first priority. |

There are so many things about this game that don't match the high tech setting and it's pissing me off. The oddly weak shields around your head is just the start.
What about the fact that the radar system is somehow based on almost nothing but forward facing vision? You have all of these sensors that are inside the dropsuits that scan for players buy only in the brief field of view in front of you? No one has figured there should probably be even a single weak sensor on the back of the suit so you can watch that guy walking right up behind you? |

Well modern day the material used to cover the face is alot thinner, like plexiglass instead of Kevlar. I'm not sure what our heads are made out of though I doubt its anything super heavy becaue the neck muscles are alot weaker then say the arms or legs as far as attaching and moving appendages go.
Even just weight wise before throwing off my balance I can stack alot more stuff on my arms then I can my head. And there is alot of gear and sensors that will need to go onto the head. Viewers, cameras. Alot of high tech stuff. Putting a shield generation unit there would probably be cumbersome, so thats probably why the head shields are so bad. As for the body there is probably a shield generator on our chest and crammed up our tail pipe to protect the legs. |

Didn't even really notice the extra damage to be honest. Its a nice inclusion, probably more noticable when dropping heavys. |

Ill say that because of the outbreak of concussions and head trauma in the NFL back on earth in the early 21st century, shield manufacturers recognized the only way to protect the brain was to 100% reduce any impact to the head. Thus it uses more shield when impacts to the head are made in order to not just stop the projectile from penetrating, but from even making contact. |

It depends on the gun. Snipers and Scrambler pistols have a HUGE headshot bonus. Pistols are 4.5, i dunno what snipers are, but above 2 i think.
Other guns just have 1.5. With Scrambler rifles this is applied after the 20% bonus to shields, so a headshot will do 180% to shields, so its more like a 60% bonus.
But yeah with scrambler pistols its super noticable. The best thing to do with a scrambler is to run away around a corner, aim at head level and unload as soon as the enemy comes around. You will do 500 damage instantly and win the fight. Fantastic. |
