When I first started playing this game I died at least 10 times per match, and found the menu system frustrating and confusing.
I came back about a week later and figured out how to use the fitting system, and then started talking to players, and I eventually joined a corporation.
I then found out about the different kinds of equipment, and started using repair tools acting like a medic. People thought I was really good at that so I skilled into them more.
Once the game left beta I had to restart all of my progress and so I left the corp and started playing solo again. This time around, I was fortunate to squad with a few members of ZionTCD including one of their directors. I did exceptionally well that match (earned enough for my own orbital) and they asked me to join. A few weeks later I was representing Zion.
Fast forward 3 months and now I'm active on their website and have made a big impact in-game. I play a battle with one of their better members and top the corp's high scores for points in a match. Now the leadership has noticed my ability and they talk to me about leading one of their divisions.
A month goes by and now I'm a division leader letting the rest of our players know how to train skills and how to be effective in combat. The game releases and now we're fighting for districts on planets in order to take over the system one planet at a time.
Then today, we are losing clones in our weakest disctrict. If the enemy takes this spot on the planet it could mean hundreds of isk lost and clones wasted. If we don't win this next battle it could mean spending more unnecessary time and money trying to get it back.
Now I'm in a battle keeping a squad of heavy gunners alive as we defend an objective. They know I'm a good Logistics players so they are now relying on me to do my job well. In the middle of the battle they send in an orbital which wipes out our squad. The enemy quickly hacks 3 of the 4 objectives while we're unable to get in position. I quickly spawn back in and get an uplink set up to have our guys come in from the backside. I keep our force staying alive through the spray of bullets as we turn the objectives back to our side and run them out of clones.
My small actions in this game have led to where I am now, and it has made my experience so much more enjoyable.
This is why I love this game. This is the bigger scale of it all. This is DUST. |

Not quite sure what you mean by that question.
Do you mean something more drastic in-game? or something more drastic in real life? or something more drastic besides being on the Dust forums?
Slightly confused... |

Typically keyboards sit in front of your monitor. If you're reading my words on the monitor, the other end of the keyboard would typically be 'your space'.
Infer from this what you must, I believe it's pretty straight forward once it's put into context. |

Yes, absolutely.
To the point that I gave up for about a month because of how annoying it was to be killed by dropships every other match when missiles were way overpowered.
The best part about this game is how you can come back after a month and have 700k+ skill points to spend. That's what got me back into it XD |

Agreed.
Honestly, this isn't a game you can cover with a typical review.
Great story though, I've always considered going logi to some extent. Maybe when I get my respec I'll dabble a bit and see what I like. |

Lets all be honest to some extent.... we all can relate to this. Its the small stuff and the little achievements that keep us going like working out how to make your own fit or getting your first positive kill to death or getting over 1000 wp in a match. Playing with friends and joining a corp and learning from older player's and the different roles you can become... +1 from me on your post mate. Great post. |

Just like EVE. This exact concept is what got me into CCP's games in the first place.
Especially this Trailer. I had heard of EVE around the place, but when I saw that trailer, that sold me instantly. I have had plenty of experiences that can relate to that trailer, and the OPs story, already in my years of EVE and now DUST. Heres to many more. :D |

I only wished this would apply to real life too. I have always had horrible English grades XD
Other than that, if I had the money for a recording setup, I'd make a video that reviewed this game from my point in the game. I would go through and describe what kinds of roles work and how crazy PC is and how the game gets better the more you play. |

I started out playing Final Fantasy, Contra, and Battle Toads on Nintendo. Video games have come a long way. I recently had a sit down (virtual of course) with an alliance leader on a different platform. Not being familiar with EvE Online I had to consult one of my directors, who was. We brokered a deal for a merger of our corp and one of their Dust514 corps, rattled out details for off planet support, and discussed our mercenary duties on the ground. Badass.
I've been waiting for something like Dust to come about for decades. I thought it was going to tank when Uprising was such a flop. Yet here I am three weeks later, still grinding. CCP has been working to address the issues that made this game suck. Thats cool. I have high hopes for what Dust will become and given the development teams level of commitment, I'd say its high expectation. I waited 20 some years but cant wait for the next expansion.

It's hard to do, and if you actually get through and manage to communicate what's actually going on in New Eden you'll prolly get the 'but that's just crazy' headshake ;) |
